Arctic Devil Barley Wine, aptly named after the ferocious wolverine of the north, is an English-style barley wine that ages to perfection in oak barrels for several months before being blended, bottled and released in the fall. This highly acclaimed and awarded barley wine is a classic annual release of Midnight Sun, where a deceptively simple grain bill turns into big bold flavors hosting hints of caramel, vanilla, slight fruitiness, and strong malt sweetness that claw to the surface with every sip.

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a snifter. Opaque dark brown with crimson hue with no head. Aroma is caramel, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel, leather, and oak.

12 oz. Aroma is caramel, sherry, harsh booze, coconut, apple, woody, vanilla, raisin, licorice. The harsh astringent boozy character in the nose disappears pretty quickly, leaving the rest of the more pleasant aroma descriptors to come forward and shine. Pours murky orange-ish brown with a small quickly collapsing beige head. Taste is highly sweet, never cloying, toasty, faintly bitter with lots of caramelly and to a lesser extent, fruity ester flavors. Amazing. This is how it's done, barleywine producers.

Oxford tasting; vintage 2014, 3 years old, 13.4% ABV
Dark amber color with no head. Aroma of alcohol, bourbon, some malt. Good malt flavor, sweet, but the body is not too thick because the alcohol is very strong; very strong bourbon character, touch of nuts and toffee, hints of leather.
Good, extreme, a bit too extreme indeed.
