Chocolate Fudge Cake Stout. A deep and rich milk stout, balancing roasted coffee and chocolate notes with sweetness and caramel aromas. Made with roasted malts and milk sugars, this beer is like a fudge brownie in a glass.

330ml can from Beer52 subscription box. Black pour with moderate sized beige head, settles to a nice creamy top Inviting desert stout aroma of chocolate, fudge, burnt caramel, light background roasted malts. Taste starts chocolate and slight burnt caramel, then comes the fudge and lactose to make it very moreish, then the mild bitterness comes in. Hops are fairly low key but occasionally I get a bit of light fruitiness also. Medium bodied, smooth, soft carbonation.

Very sweet but pretty nice. Everything that’s in the description. Maybe not that complex but good taste for the strength if you’re up for this kind of thing

440ml can from Bottle and Barrel, Aberystwyth. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and fake sugar. The flavour is over moderate sweet, with a smooth, somewhat light, watery, chocolate, lactose palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation. This is light, watery and fizzy. I don’t like light fizzy stouts packed with fake sugary adjuncts which is precisely what this beer is.

Pours black, large off-white head. Scent is intense, chocolate and vanilla, some clove as well. Taste is fairly sweet, low carbo, dense body. Vanilla in the lead, cocoa powder in the back. Some clove, but not as much as feared. OK, bit simple.

Keg at the Wild Kite, Great Missenden, 23/02/23. Pitch black with a decent tan cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is dark chocolate, brown sugar melt, hint of vanilla, mellow roast. Taste comprises chocolate, dark malts, hint of coffee, caramel, light roast. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light drying close. Decent flavoursome stout.

On tap at The Rusty Bucket, Eltham. Black pour with a tan head. Nice nose of chocolate cake, caramel, toffee, cocoa. Flavours of chocolate cake, caramel, treacle toffee, sweet creamy coffee, fudge. Sweet lightly warming finish. Very flavoursome indeed.
