Plzeň goes to show that a beer doesn’t need a lot of alcohol to be special. With its fine, hoppy flavour, this 5% blond beer can certainly hold its own against the stronger beers. Brewed only from pale barley malt, this is a floral beer with delightful, hoppy aromas of hay and fresh grass. Deliciously dry, with a long-lasting aftertaste. We named the beer after the Czech town of Plzeň, from which Pilsner beers originate. Despite that, our Plzeň is not a Pilsner; it is a refreshing, bitter, top-fermented beer.

On tap @ the brewery. Cloudy orange body with a nice white head. Light aroma of citric fruit, yeast and spices. Flavor is light malty, quite fruity, some hops and spices. To funky to be a pilsner, but really refreshing and tasty as an ale.

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow to orange with a huge white head. Earthy and spiced yeasty phenolic aroma. Brett-ish and dry flavoured with a mild citric note, dry though and light wheat-like with a nice hoppy note. Dry and yeasty phenolic finish.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orange with a large bubble filled white to slight off white head. Aroma is sour fruit and grass. Taste is citrus fruit with a floral hint. Finish is bitter.

Bottle. Golden beer with a very strong head. The aroma is quite fruity and dry, and the flavour is so very dry and slightly face pullingly sour. Overall a disappointing and quite undrinkable beer at times, but you get use to it.

Bottle 33cl @ [ Tasting by Maria ].Clear light to medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy - creamy, good lancing, mostly diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, fruit notes, moderate yeasty, leather - barnyard. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (170608)

On tap @ IJ brouwerij. One of the few IJ beers that, imo, taste better from tap than from a bottle. Cloudy golden colour, thick bright white head. Smell of IJ yeast (top fermented!), some sugar, flowers and hops. Taste is rich, bitter, a wee bit sourish, but mostly bitter. A bit spicy. Very good "pilsener".

Draught at the brewery. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Light malty moderate hopy aroma. Nice citrus-notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. OPily palate. Realy nice pilsener.

Pale yellow coloured, medium sized white head, mild sourish nose. Very bitter flowery hop taste which is very similar to cumin. Strong bitter finish. I asked for large glass (0.5l), but I got small one(0.25l), which, in the end, was more than enough. The oddish (should I say, the worst) t IJ beer.

Unfiltered/unpasteurized, bottle conditioned beer has an immense white head that is quite fluffy/rocky and slow to recede. Retention is very high, with plentiful lacing. Brilliant gold and maize body has a high clarity, with tiny bubbles rising vigorously in the liquid. Looks like a most delicious pilsner...
Fantastic brett nose is strong, highly sniffable and incredibly clean and polished. No thick yeast dullness/paperiness, no alcohol and no flaws of any kind. Tart and full of dry fruits (pear skins, green grapes, limes) with lightly herbal hops (oregano, dill, basil sort of thing) sitting lightly on the finish. Malt is wonderfully clean and attenuated, leaving only spare traces of honey that tickle the nose and keep the beer very dry and refreshing. I’d give Orval the leg up due to its hoppiness and better malt complexity, but it’s not a fair comparison, as this one has a lager grain bill, while Orval more a trappist pale ale.
Not surprisingly, the flavor is full of brett fruitiness and light tartness. A bit more malt apparency in flavor, but again it’s a very clean, honey-like pilsner maltiness, soft and supple, with minimal graininess or doughiness. No flaws at all and a medium amount of very tight carbonation make it almost creamy. Divinely drinkable stuff, with one of the most clear and striking brett flavors I’ve encountered. Hops are again mostly dry and reserved, though still quite flavorful for what’s there, leaving herbs and a light wet grassiness on the finish. In place of the normal bitterness, you have the brett adding tartness. Flawless and very refreshing.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Golden yellow colour, rather cloudy, with firm white head. Strange fruity nose with sourish notes of lemon and underlying buttery malt. Malty, bready taste with a rather long, dryish finish with notes of hay and grassy hops. Bitterness comes through well in the finish. Strange, almost musty, aroma reminding a bit of wheat beer, replaced by a rather interesting, more pilsner-like, taste. Interesting.
