750ml bottle found in rural Alberta, no it ain’t retired as far as I can tell, though maybe this is on the way out and remaining stocks will just be depleted. Pours with modest slightly creamy head and swampy brown body that bodes plenty of carbonation. Soft hay and malt aroma, barn funk and hazelnut kinda. Flavour is an earthy nut with hints of malty caramel and said barn funk. Like sucking on a plank of wood from the barn that the cows had lived in. Medium finish, could use a little more presence on the mouth. Hefty and I like the earthy tones. Too bad it’s having a retirement party.

Bottled@HBF. Dark brown color, small beige head. Chocolate, malts in the aroma. Active carbonation, medium-bodied. A bit vegetably, chocolate So and so, some disturbing flavors. Aroma is good.

Bottle: Pours dark brown with a huge, thick, dark tan head. Chocolate, raspberry aroma. Chocolate, roast coffee, dark fruit/berry flavours. Increasing roastiness to an almost smoky finish. Light, but very good.

Bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market, London. Dark amber colour with a beige head. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate malt. Light body, carbonation is rather too fizzy.

Bottled@HBF2013. Deep copper colour, small off-white creamy head. Aroma is floral, some grassy and herbal notes along with some toasted malts. Flavour is herbal, grassy, mild ashes, toffee and some mild floral notes. Surprisingly tasty, but not your typical dunkel...

33 cl bottle @ HBF’13
Aroma is rather nice with cocoa and roasted malt. Flavour has cocoa, roastd malts and coffee. Feels like a schwartzbier that feels like a stout. And it seems that this is actually a dunkel...

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at HBF2013) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had roasted malts and molasses. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, molasses, sweetness, grass and bitterness. Afteraste was sweet and bitter. A decent dunkel.
