The beer that inspired this crazy journey, ours is a hop driven Pale Ale bursting with flavour and aroma. Full-bodied yet refreshing, the bitter finish will leave your tastebuds craving more.

We were born to make Pale Ale, a style that was little known in Australia when we started, but is now much loved. Back in the day there were two hop varieties coming out of the North West of the US that really took our fancy; Cascade and Chinook hops. These hops packed an addictive punch and gave rise to the super hoppy American Pale Ale, a style that inspired us back then and still inspires us today.

Since day one, we have brewed our Pale using whole hop cones, sourced straight from the US directly to our breweries (something pretty unique) and use our hop back to extract those beautiful, hoppy aromas and delicate bitterness. Preservative and additive free, our Pale Ale is live yeast conditioned, in the bottle (after filling) for unmatched freshness and character and takes about six weeks from brewing to be released.

330mL bottle, pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is a nice balance of light hops and malts. Flavour is very balanced as well, with a lingering hop bitterness. Solid pale ale.

From a 330ml bottle on 31/12/2009. Probably the best widely available beer in the country. Instantly recognisable, with its lovely floral, hoppy aroma, beautifully balanced passionfruit-like flavour, and walloping bitterness. Truly excellent. Rating 4.2.

Re-rate on 21/1/2017. LC pale was one of the first beers that piqued my interest in good beer. It was different, distinctly floral and miles better than the pale lager rubbish that was universally available here at the time. As a result I was somewhat over-generous with my rating, noting that I was largely still unfamilar with truly great beers. This remains a superior APA, albeit that it could afford to be a little more hoppy and assertive.

Earthy hops with a bit of corn that thankfully fades. A nice subdued bitterness rounds it off.

Light copper. Lacy cream head. Honeyed citrus nose. Quite a lot of bubbles. Assertive rather than aggressive hopping. Complex resiny leatherwood middles. Carbonation doesn’t quite hide slight deadness on the palate. Very good rather than great. (rerate, old rating 3.7:) 9/10 I’ve had a few of its local competitors recently and liked them well enough. But I think I under-rated this one, perhaps from drinking it a bit too cold. Everything works together here, and as the cliche goes, a champion team beats a team of champions. [3.8][10/13] Reliable and pretty great. Not overtaken by later developments. [9/17] Still not overtaken by later developments, although it seems a tad old fashioned now - the hop aromatics are all integrated rather than bursting forth in dry hopped showiness.

Bottle. An orange-like color, a bit cloudy. The foam is not large but are lasting for quite a long time. Smells nice, a lot of citrus and a little black bear. The taste is not so extreme. Fruit and some flowers. Fresh and easy to drink. Bitterness is decent without being too aggressive. A drinkable beer that is not too advanced.

(Bottle, The Rake, Southwark, London, 18 Apr 2009) Golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, floral nose with notes of orange peel and grapefruit. Fruity, malty taste with orange peel, flowers and a solid crystal malt foundation. Floral, citrussy hops in the finish, but more emphasis on aroma than bitterness. Excellent balance. Very nice beer.

Bright amber pour with small white head that leaves nice lacing.Aroma is of grapefruit, peach, very green and grassy (presumably from dry-hopping with cascade or similar. Hints of pine. Low malt is just noticeable.Malt is much more dominant in the taste, followed by a lingering metallic bitterness. Definitely more balanced than the aroma.Rather weak body, high carbonation. One of the best well-known (as in available in pretty much every bottle-o) beers in Australia.
