0,33 l bottle from Just In Beer, Groningen. 3,35 €. Stands 8 weeks or so in my shelf but has a lot of pressure in the bottle. Pours out pitch black and oily. Huge beige head, nearly gushing in the glass. Too much in my opinion. A massive aroma attack on the nose. Taste starts relative smooth for that abv, choco and coffee, malt and vanilla in the background, fuity. Very complex mouthfeel, warming. Increasing fruity and alcoholic in the second part. Little bit sticky to the end. Long lasting coffee. Great brew! Better than any ABI ever.

From 33cl bottle. Pours black with very limited brown foam. Aroma is coffee, hazelnut, and candy sugar. Body is medium but with quote some stickiness. Just a bit of astringency. Taste is sweet at first, followed immediately by intense bitterness. Finish, however, is sweet again and long.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with an ephemeral tan head. Aroma of roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice notes, and some alcohol. Nice.

Bottle picked up from the brewery in 2013. A jet black coloured pour with a lasting dark tan head. Aroma is initially punch roasted barley, black malts, figgy pudding, booze soaked fruit, sherry, cakey malts. Palate is oily, thick and chewy with lowish carbonation. Flavour is rounded, smooth rich roast, earthy, toffee, boozy fruit cake, little age, Finish hold a little wood / sherry cask note. Solid stuff.

330ml bottle from Bainbridge Liquor store at Brian’s. BB Sep-2016. Pours an opaque dark reddish brown with a brown head. Aroma brings out loads of sweetness, molasses, leather, liquorice. Taste is pretty the same character with roasted malt bitterness. Very good beer.

Original review text: Very dark brown, close to black, in colour. Beige head that gives way to a beautiful espresso-like lacing. If you spin the glass around a few times, you’ll get a finger of head again, just beautiful. Smells like roasted malts, dried fruit, dark cherries and coffee. The taste is what you’d expect from the aroma - dark cherries, dark chocolate, molasses and instant coffee. The texture is incredibly smooth and the aftertaste is cherry-bitter. Amazing beer. I am tasting this after several of its barrel-aged variants, and I can see why the latter are so good, because they have an awesome base beer to improve on.
