An English Ale with a distinctive flavour of dark toffee and caramel combined with a crisp bitterness derived from using rare Bramling Cross hops. Tropical and berry fruits from the mix of hops, in particular the rare Bramling Cross which adds black and redcurrants. Challenger in the boiling copper gives robust bitterness and this is balanced by the sweetness from the pale and crystal malts. (Bottle 4.7%)

Medium tan head, which quickly subsides, over clear, nutty brown body. Aroma is malts with hints of something nutty and also hops. The taste is quite big and grows to a powerful finish, which is quite bitter. Taste appears to be mostly malts, but the nuttiness is even more pronounced here. A very good beer, and very drinkable. (0.5l bottle in glass. Unfortunately, now with a modern cork instead of the delightful cap Ruddles used to have.)

Bottle from Sainsburys. Orange amber colour, nice malts with caramel flavours. Caramel on nose not a lot of hop which lets down the finish slightly. Enjoyed the malty flavours though

(bottle) Deep amber colour with a medium foamy off-white head. Floral hoppy aroma with oranges and toasted malts. Soft sweetbitter flavour, medium body. Nice balance between the initial sweet and toasty maltiness, a nutty and fruity palate and the almost lasting bitterhoppy finish.

An amber beer with a nice light brown head. The aroma is sweet nutty, combined with some fruits, spices, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of nuts, caramel, and fruit, with a bitter hoppy very dry end - almost woody. Really good balance.

Bottled. Dark copper coloured with white foamy head, which disappears quickly. Hoppy nose with fruitish hints. Very wellbalanced taste, mainly of fruits, but also bitterness. Mouthdrying effect, but still very fresh mouthfeel.

Bottle. Nutty sweet aroma. Not a dramatic head. Very nice color. A very pleasant bitterness with a slight nuttiness and just enough carbonation. An extremely pleasing ESB and beer overall.

Copper brown. Creamy off-white head and lace. Aroma is hops and toffee. Mouthfeel is watery, taste toffee caramel and lightly bitter finish. Unique bottle. (6/3/5/2/11 2.7)
Re-rated, bottle
Copper brown, small tanned head. Flowery, toffeish hoppy nose. Medium-bodied. Lots of toffee and some cardboard in the flavor. Late flowery hoppy bitterness. A bit unbalanced mouthfeel, I usually donโt like toffee - hoppy -combination. (6/4/4/2/11 2.7)

500 ml oldfashioned milk bottle - nice design. Copper coloured, moderate head. Lovely hoppy aroma, hints of ripe fruits and caramel. Bramling Cross hops account for a distinct bitter flavour and aftertaste, quite dry - I'd like some more malts to balance the hops, but that's the style, I guess. Still, this is a nice beer - will definitely buy again.
