Bottle at RBESG 2007. Choccy porter, that is a little on the thin side. Powdery in the mouth and a little bit acidic towards the end.

Bottle. Very dark pour, ruby/brown color, with a beige head. Chocolate, coffee, burnt malt and a wee note of sourness in the aroma. I found the aroma slightly better than the flavor, but the flavor isn’t bad either, with chocolate, coffee and hops being the main elements. A bit thin body, I could wish for a fuller one, but being only 4.5% ABV, I wasn’t surprised. The finish has hops, roasted malt and is a bit fruity. A nice, English-style porter. (070705)

200ml taster from a bottle at Tromsø Ølfestival. Moderate chocolate aroma joined by a touch of anise. Low-level foam over a dark-brown body. Roasted malts in a taste that is supported by coffee beans. Salty and a bit smoky. The brew gives an overall impression of being rather sheltered in flavour. (15.08.2007).

500 ml bottle. Deep red, almost black body with a beautiful beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is harmonic, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. This is a creamy and smooth porter, but unfortunately I find the rather low alcohol causing an imbalance. I’m ending up with a beer feeling too watery to deserve a higher score for palate and overall. The appearance, aroma and first sip were lovely. I really prefer the ordinary porter from HB. Many British porters manage to be full-bodied at this alcohol percent. Sorry.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours completely opaque black with a small, beige head. Roasted aroma with some licorice. Medium body, soft and rather flat mouthfeel. Dominated by roasted malt accents, almost creamy smooth with touches of both licorice and coffee. Dry with some bitterness. Quite an intense and concentrated flavour pattern for a beer of this modest strength. 200707

Biggish dark brown head. Opaque black body, barely translucent dark red at edge. Sweet delicate licorice and toffee aroma with notes of coffee and traces of pine needles. Sweetish coffee taste with minty licorice notes and dark chocolate. A tad watery, but definitely good for the amount of alcohol, and still a smooth mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and harmonic. Dry, coffeeish aftertaste with notes of dark chocolate. Burnt coffeeish taste lingers. Very nice! (0.5l bottle.)

Bottled at Pikkulinttu, Helsinki. Black, small head. Light fruity coffee aroma. Medium sweet and medium bodied with clean rounded mouthfeel. Fairly low bitterness, A core of chewy, roasty malt provides everything this beer offers, and that is quite a lot.

Bottled. Black opaque colour, small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, some hops and a bit of caramel. Flavour is smoothly roasted malts, caramel, some slight chocolate and hoppyness. Especially the finish is quite dry and bitter.
