Aging beer in wooden barrels results in prominent oak notes, but above all, it adds the character of the alcohol that previously resided in the barrel. It’s like adding an additional aromatic layer to beer.

This is how Björn came about. Björn, Ragnar’s oldest son, called Ironside, invincible, not obvious, he inherited most of his father’s qualities, yet he’s still finding his own way. This great warrior flows from rum barrels originating from Jamaica and Barbados. We age it for 14 months, so that apart from well-known rum notes, Ragnar gets additional cherry aromas.

On tap at WBF 2025, pours black with a frothy brown head. Aroma has pungent rum barrel, with toasted malt and a touch of vanillin underneath. Flavour is overtaken by a harsh rum barrel expression—perfumey, boozy, harsh—leaving the base malts obscured. What was once a good base beer has been ruined by harsh rum treatment. Not good.

On tap at Warsaw Beer Festival 2025. Pours nearly black with a tan head. Burnt toast and black rum on the nose. Flavour has burnt bread crusts, dry sugars, and a ton of harsh spiced rum. The base beer is great, but the rum barrel completely bulldozes the beer.

Bottle 33cl. @home poured into a pint glass. Alcohol nose. Pitch black, no head and lacing. Aroma develops slowly, roasted malt, rum, glue; after warming up more and more cocoa, iodine and coffee notes. Taste above medium sweet and slightly bitter, roasted malt, burning alcohol, dark chocolate, slightly peated. Full-bodied, oily texture, flat carbonation, smooth sweetbitter aftertaste, light roast, strong alcohol presence till the end, earthy notes, quite nice.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of rum, chocolate, roasted malt and nuts with earthy note. Pours almost black color without any head, but with just a tiny tan-like rim. Taste starts with rich roasted malt, nuts and rum, follows by chocolate, wood and dried fruit, mouthfeel is smooth and warm, while finish is pretty bitter. Full body, thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Borg…

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small, creamy, fading, beige head. Chocolately, dark malty and slightly bitter alcoholic aroma, notes of dark chocolate, dark caramel, some rum, a touch of dark toffee. Taste is sweet-ish, chocolately dark malty, caramel malty and slightly alcoholic, notes of dark chocolate, dark caramel, some toffee, rum, some alcoholic bitterness; slightly warming, alcoholic finish. Creamy to viscous texture, smooth, soft and silky palate, fine, soft to flat carbonation. Neither overly deep nor rich, very homogeneous - a good but just an average one among the considerable number of excellent Baltic Porters brewed in this style's leading country Poland.

Lõhnab nagu arstikapp, maitseb suht ka, lisaks šokolaad, röst, linnased, mõrudus jms. Veider, uuesti ei kipuks proovima, aga väikeste lonksudena joodamatu ei ole.
