Cask at Boot, Chester – but first drank this beer in 1978 ! This was served way ridiculously cold, so had no taste, and in very dimpsy light. Anyway, pours bitter brown with a medium sized off-white head. Not much of an aroma just some sweet malts. In the mouth it is malty. Starts off sweet and watery but some bitterness comes through later. Some hints of nuts and spices as well. It’s OK.

On tap at The Gazebo. Pours a clear gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of earthy bread and light sweet grains with a straw note backing. Flavor has lots of bread and grains with a slight nuttiness and straw underlying.

Cask at The Chandos, Charing Cross. Rich and malty aroma. Light chestnut. Creamy off-white head. Sour.berries. underlying malty sweetness with a touch of bitterness. Odd salty hints. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Long finish. Basic bitter.
