Pivovar Matuška Raketa Sour

Raketa Sour

Pivovar Matuška in Broumy, Central Bohemian Region, Czechia 🇨🇿

IPA - Sour / Wild Rotating
Score
6.74
ABV: 7.0% IBU: - Ticks: 7
This beer belongs to Sour IPA style and it was brewed by the use of kettle souring. The base of Raketa Sour is the same as of Zlata Raketa, but it is sour. To enhance the hop aroma, we added Enigma hop to the standard hops used in Zlata Raketa. Thanks to the hop composition, this beer has citrusy and fruit aroma, the taste is refreshingly sour, but still very full and strong.

Hopfiger, geringfügig säuerlicher Beginn. Frisch, cremig herb, minimal bitter, eher fruchtig "New England-Style". Hohe Süffigkeit, leicht ansteigende Säure. Langer fruchtiger Abgang. Gut. 9/11/12/11/11/11

Can via somewhere. Quite simple. Med-light sourness, mostly clean lacto, hints of funk though. Light caramel and sweetness and light bitterness too, sourness slightly on top, but overall balanced. Med-thin body, med-low carbonation. Light cardboard oxidation, mostly noticeable initially, after a while it hides. The hops character too seems oxidized, not feeling very fresh. Light grassy fruity tones. Overall drinkable, balanced, not very exciting though. Good but not great.

Tap at 2K. Hazy golden body, white head. Ugh... the aroma is initially a complete mess, as is the taste, with an enormous tooth rot-like note I'm guessing is from the Lactobacillus, literally a 1.something or low 2.something beer at first, but thankfully, that is gone fairly soon and it gets much better. Light berry notes come more in the aroma, but mostly dull if cleaner lactic acid notes. Sweetish taste, mixing a juicy, fruity tropical-berry hoppiness and lactic acid flavors, odd in a way, the bitterness is nowhere to be seen, and it's not sour as such, quite a bit more sweet than sour. In the end it worked, but the first impression was alarming.
