With this special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with combining our usual devotion to a solid malt profile with the addition of American aroma hops. Batch One is an American-inspired Ale characterized by its vast, full body and generous use of hops. In the glass, it has a reddish-brown colour with a coppery glow, and a beige-coloured head leaves a nice lacing behind. For this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry-hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus-like character and impart a solid bitterness to balance the sweet caramel malt.

From notes 6/15/09. This beer pours a dark, translucent mahogany red tone with a creamy head and good lacing. The aroma is strong with sharp bitter hop notes and the smoldering presence of alcohol esters. There’s some good caramel malt underneath these odors, but it’s not nearly as strong or sweet as I’d prefer. The bitter hop notes really come out on the palate. There’s also a pepperiness to it, and the alcohol also is clearly evident. There is a strong caramel malt presence, but it’s not nearly as sweet as I’d prefer. Maybe, there’s something wrong with my tastebuds, but it feels like this beer is stripping a layer of skin off in my mouth. I keep coming back to the word "sharp". Mouthfeel is smooth and pleasantly viscous. Drinkability is low for me for the above-stated reasons. At any rate, it’s a well-made beer that isn’t to my liking.

Cremig-malziger und deutlich hopfiger Geruch. Mittel-hopfiger Antrunk, angenehm, etwas herb-alkoholisch. 10/10/10/11/8/10

Bottle: Dark mahoghany pour with a thick ring of creamy beige head. Sweet and seductive aroma of citrus, florals, and caramel. Flavor is assertive with floral hops, faded citrus, and rich maltiness. Had this in the cellar for about a year and it is still plenty lively. Nice.

On tap at Ørsteds Ølbar, Copenhagen. Enjoyed during FC Copenhagen match. Nice!. Red/brown color, hints af citrus in aroma. Sweet taste maybe caramel? Slightly bitter aftertaste like a IPA. A beer with high abv. - this also means a full bodied beer. A hoppy barley wine.

50cl Bottle, birthday gift. Clear dark reddish amber colour, dense off white head. Aroma of strong citrus and grapefruit hops, some caramel and liquorice root. Flavour is sweet, malty, caramel, strong citrus hop bitterness underneath, good earthy liquorice and grapefruit bitter finish. Medium to fullbodied. Really good stuff.

Bottle. Pours very cloudy amber brown with a thin white head. Aroma has a strong alcohol note with notes of pine hops and grainy malt. The flavor is similar with the alcohol being a bit over bearing throughout.
