Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to New England’s original brewers, a tip of the cap to historic beer recipes calling for the use of pumpkins that date back to early colonial times. It’s also a beer we’re fiercely proud of – in a sea of imitators, it continues to stand out. Just like Smuttynose itself.
Brewed with real pumpkin and traditional spices – think cinnamon, nutmeg and clove – it’s a hearty, deeply balanced ale with a cornucopia of fall aromas to match a flavor profile that’s robust and complex without being overwhelming.
This is a beer with complements of pumpkin – not the other way around. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Not sure if I just got a skunked pack or what but this thing is a mess. ORangey pour, lots of head, herbs aroma, some pumpkin but lots of phenolic nastiness ruining it. Throwing the rest out.

Pours hazy amber with a frothy white head. Aroma of vegetable matter. Taste has more vegetable matter, sweet malt base, spiced pumpkin notes. Palate has more vegetable matter, squash. Not great.

Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival/taster pour at source. Appearance is light brown hazy with nice sparkle at side of the glass, finger-width white foamy head, mild lacing. Aroma is light pumpkin spice, general maltiness. Taste is light pumpkin--not overpoweringly sweet, perhaps not sweet enough--and not much else. Palate is medium bodied with average-to-lively carbonation, foamy texture and moderately pumpkin-y finish but surprisingly not sweet, even a little bit bitter. Overall, often spice/herb/vegetable beers whack you over the head with whatever the special flavor they have. This one is too restrained and there isn't enough of a base beer behind it to rescue it. Forgettable.

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, spicy nose with dried fruit, pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, toffee and rye bread. Malty, spicy taste with notes of dried fruit, spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove), honey, toast, herbal hints of oregano and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, mainly dry. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

On tap at Vrteška 2016, Belgrade. Pours golden orange with small white head. Malty, spicy, pumpkin, cinnamon, light caramel. Some sweetness. Medium bodied. Quite decent actually.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Hazy light orange with off-white head. Aroma is nutmeg, medium body, lower carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is pumpkin and nutmeg.

Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, spicy, pumpkin spices, spices. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average to long duration, caramel, spicy, pumpkin spices, sweet malt, light earthy. Botella 33 cl en el kraken 25..10..2016. (r806). Lote ES01631 hasta 12..2017. Color dorado turbio con espuma blanca Aromas y sabores maltosos dulces con toques de calabaza y vegetales al final que la endulzar algo más y acabando con suave amargo algo seco. No está mal.
