330 ml can. Pours black with moderate tan head. Aromas of soy sauce, ginger, cardamom, and slick roasted malts. Flavors follow same, heavy on the spice, with additional scotch, old oak, and oliy roasted malts. Slightly salty. Neat.

330mL can, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose is mostly a function of cardamon and clove upfront, followed by tangy oyster sauce and a touch of roast. Flavour is really strange, with lots of spicy cardamom and clove upfront, followed by umami notes and a touch of oyster sauce. There's a lack of body here that is ruined by the adjuncts. Bad idea on paper, bad execution. Poor.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, ceamy brownish head.It smells like my pantry (or an asian shop); spices (fennel, cardamom, cinnamon), mint, chocolate, dry fishy food; a lot going on here, but not what I really need in a beer. Smooth mouthfeel, some residual sweetness, salty, briney, with unwanted spices.
A good base beer, even if I don't care for the adjuncts.

330ml shared on Alex's porch. Appearance: dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma: iodine and ink, quite disgusting for me. Taste: a bit better - some ink and iodine, a bit of fruity character and smoke. Overall: ok.

Near black with a ring beige head. Aroma of spice, cloves, leather, chocolate, licorice, cardamom and caramel. Flavour is heavy sweet, above moderate bitter and moderate salty with some nice umami. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Decent tan/fawn head. Nose - molasses, light smoke and liquorice. Whisky of course. Taste - more whisky, wood, soy sauce, molasses and dark chocolate. Palate - medium bodied, dry and roast middle and finish. Overall - gnarly and challenging, but rewarding.
