Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

From tap at Bierencafé de Heks, Deventer. Aroma is rather malty, soft fruity and spicy notes, a touch of caramel. A bit buttery. Flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Very dull and forgettable Saison.

Bottle at Ebenezers, Nantwich. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a sizeable white head, good lacing and fairly high carbonation. There’s malts and continental hops in the aroma. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, but with underlying bitterness. Flavour has floral hops, oranges and bread rolls plus hints of spices. Finish is dry and a little rubbery. Nice enough, but not a world beater.

Foamy white head left a large froth on a clear amber coloured body. Tea, malt & bitter aroma. Medium bodied, extremely foamy in the mouth with a dry back. Spicy, tea, malt, bitter & herbal tastes with a lightly hopped peppery finish. Decent.

Tap. Light hop aroma, malt and candy. Taste: light and refreshing, a little bit of sweet malt and sour fruit, medium hop bitterness. Pleasant and refreshing ale.
