Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, the brewery uses dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. The beer was named Cutthroat Porter as a tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring.

Notes from October 2009 Straight flush into an imperial pint glass. Two plus inches of fluffy oatmeal head. Surprisingly sticky, uniform spiderweb lace over a ruby-edged black on brown body. Smell is sharp chocolate coffee roast, straight white sugar, a touch of lactose, & prickly/citric hops. First sip is like watered down, low calorie, 1% chocolate milk. Light-stepping grain. Weak tar fumes maybe? Earthy. Gentle roast, a soy newspaper twang, & a very casual, cherry pit-like twangy bitterness to close it out. Near stoutly roasted, but with some decent body & mouthfeel filled in. Carbonation is right on for me. Milky, but still a bit light for the style. Thanks to russpowell for padding my Odell resume with a good one. :)

Draft at The Tavern at Nemacolin Woodland Resort, Farmington, PA. Pitch black pour with a beige head and very good retention. Roasted and coffee aroma. The flavor is also roasted with a light coffee taste. Clean and smooth with a creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good aside from the coffee flavor.

Pours deep brown from the bottle with a light tan, foamy head. The aroma has strong roasted notes, smoke, caramel, and a light touch of dark chocolate. Taste is sweet to bittersweet, with a modest uptick in bitterness and roasted flavor at the finish. Body is not exactly light, but stays to the lighter side of medium. Pretty good.

Clear deep ruby brown colour, small frothy tan head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, liquorice. Smooth taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, malty, chocolate, light dark fruits. Middle part roasted bitter with fruity and chcolate notes till the finish, light spicy notes. Medium body, watery to creamy texture, soft carbonation, simply a good porter.

12 oz. bottle. Black, with a slight ruby hue, and a big, foamy, tan head that leaves lots of lacing. The nose is reasted malts, bitter chocolate, caramel, pine, and a bit of rosemary. Sweet and malty, with some roasted bitterness and a touch of hoppy bitterness. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, creamy, and a bit sharp. Overall, this is a pretty nice, well-made porter.
