Porter? Interesting interpretation! Clear brown pour, aroma of typical cheap caramel, mealy malts, with a tinge of some actual maple! Flavor actually isn’t totally awful, a touch of maple, with some almost cloying sweetness that for sure comes from the copius amounts of corn in the so called porter. It’s what I would expect when a macro brewery tries something other than a corn lager.

341 ml Bottle. Pours a dark red/brown with fill head. Aromas of sweetened chocolate and malts. Flavors of licorice, sweet malts and syrup. A little weak but easy to drink.

Bouteille 341ml. Couleur brun-ambré. Arôme caramel, un peu d’érable. Au goût le sirop d’érable promis sur l’étiquette est absent. Une bière un peu générique, mais quand même convenable.

The Beer Store 500ml can: Pours a very light color for a porter. Smells and drinks like a cheap beer. The maple syrup is there in a very small force. Basically, this is a simple, easy-drinking, sweet beer that virtunally anybody could be not wowwed by. My brother warned me about these beers and he was right.

Nice to see that Molson is still creating new beers for Rickard’s since they bought them. A darker one with maple syrup... sounds good. Pours a medium brown colour that is clear, with a big light brown frothy head that has good retention and leaves decent lace. The nose is malty, but very light, roasted and caramel mostly with notes of the maple syrup in the background. Watery medium-bodied mouthfeel. Taste of burnt malt (lightly) with a little hop in the finish, and the maple syrup shows up in the aftertaste. Nice and sweet, but not syrupy. Pretty decent for a Rickard’s, but a bit light for a porter.

Aroma is roasted malts hinting towards coffee but not quite there. Appearance is a very nice dark amber - ruby body and a large beige head. Flavour is all rye bread and chocolate. Weak palate. Yet, it’s not too bad and extremely drinkable, if a little simple and artificial.
