Amstel 1870 is a full malt beer, which means that only barley malt is used in the preparation. Fine aromatic hops are used to obtain the right degree of bitterness. The specific blend of barley malt ensures that the beer has a slightly darker color than the normal Amstel beer. Amstel 1870 beer takes its name from the year in which the Amstel Brewery was founded. The demand for Amstel 1870 has decreased, so as of May 2016 it was decided not to brew it anymore and is no longer available.

Aroma of malts and some hops. Flavour is malty, light sweetness, with some bitternes in the aftertaste. Much better than the ’regular’ Amstel.

Hops and grapefruit in the aroma and taste. Dry and crisp beer with a hopbitter finish. A pleasant surprise.

Lett å drikke i varmen her, men glemt innen avreise. (4.6%, i motsetning til den originale Amstel 1870 som var på 5.0% og er ute av produksjon.)

From old tasting notes. Bright yellow gold color. Rocky white head. Fragrant malt nose. Crisp, snappy grainy malt flavor. Spicy hop finish.

Gylden brun klar med minimalt beige skum. Lukter og smaker lett av eddik. Denne er dårlig.. må legge meg på snittet.

As Amstel Premium lager 1870 4.7%. Can at work. Very clear golden yellow coloured pour with a fading white froth. Aroma is subdued sweet grains, apple, straw. little corn. Flavour is composed of light grainstore grains, straw, apple, chalky thin malts. Palate is thin wateryu, chalky, spritzy carbonation. ok for what it is.

*Old rating, best before Apr-11. Nettes, goldenes, leicht süßliches Bier. Getreidig, moderat hopfig. Nett aber nicht zu tief.

Amstel was Holland’s first bottom-fermenting brewery and this beer was made to commemorate that, much like that Cristal 1928 made by Alken-Maes in Belgium. Deep golden blonde, cristal clear with good fizz, frothy and stable, snow white head; malty, sweetish, medium carbonation, with a finish remarkably more hop bitter than the regular Amstel and in that sense a lot better - but it remains a straightforward pale lager, of course.
