Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hop bitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Nice dark ruby color. Very small to no head. Sweet malt aroma, with some subtle fruit. Flavour is again, quite malty, and sweet. I find it quite similar to a very malty barley wine minus the alcohol. Nice beer.

Thick, creamy head. Very malty aroma. Mango, chocolate and caramel. Sweetish, malty taste with licorice and peach. Excellent beer. Bottle, sold as Biesbosch Bier. Probably the same beer as Robertus. Swing top bottle, brown color. Malty aroma with a hint of caramel. Malty, caramelly flavor with hints of pear drups. Flowery hops, with a hint of citrus in the finish. Almost full bodied. Well made dunkel. (7 3 7 3 13 = 3.3)

From Dec 2006

Poured from 11.2 oz swing top bottle(A and 06 were dotted on the label) a cloudy reddish gold with a large head of foam that subsided quickly leaving a fine layer and some lacing.

The smell is very sweet malt nose..smells buttery.

The taste up front is big on the caramel sweetness followed by some hop bitterness midway through and through the finish. Not bad at all and actually, the more I sip, the better I like it.
Try it and see what you think.

Bottom line: A pretty malty sample of the style and if you like malty lagers, this one will surely please you.

From old tasting notes. Cloudy Orange copper color. Huge rocky beige head. Sweet toasted malt nose. Creamy sweetish malt flavor has a wonderful burnt caramel character. Nicely balanced with a dry spicy hop finish. Quite tasty.

Rated from old notes. Nauseating sweet smell; tasted milder and dryer than expected. Disappointing. Could be lethal if had in quantity.

One of the very few Viennese lagers in the Low Countries, unfortunately no longer made nowadays. From old and very concise notes: frothy, off-white head on an attractively deep copper robe, malty, nutty, mildly (dried) fruity, soft floral hoppiness in the finish. Kind of a free interpretation of its style, which made it all the more interesting.
