Bottle at home. Jet black pour, beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, cocoa powder, faint resinous touch. Taste is earthy notes, chocolate, some cocoa again, low boozy sweetness, resinous bitterness at the end of the sip and in the finish. Light to medium body, soft to average carbonation.

Bottle from Hopt. Aroma is roasted malt and piney hops with citrus, chocolate, pine resin, notes of coffee, touch of dark fruits, some orange. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Piney hops and roast, chocolate and citrus. Solid, quite tasty hoppy Stout and/or Black IPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Ale on 11 Feb 2025 at 15:37 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Bottle at home, acquired at La Cave à Bulles, Paris. Aroma is strong roasted malt, roasty coffee, dark chocolate, with a touch of dark fruits and liquorice. Flavour is light sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Rather roasty and bitter, not as full as I’d hoped. Good.

Can. Black w a tan head that fades to a cm. Aroma of mocha, brioche, nectarine, ruby grapefruit. Smooth, a little more than medium bodied. Quite roasty with coffee, stone and citrus fruit, highish bitterness. Dangerously swiggable.

Bière 33 cl ramenée de St Étienne. Belle robe noire profonde, légère mousse brune.
