Back when Hawkes began in 2013, we launched our first ever drive to collect unloved apples, giving them new life as our flagship Urban Orchard. In 2019, in the sixth year of our drive, we received an unprecedented amount of donation and decided to do something a little different.

This is an apple-wine style cider. A style dictated by the flavours of the donated apples we received and created as naturally as possible; with no filtration, no back-sweetening and minimal preservatives

Bottle at Rich's. It pours clearish green - blonde with a tiny white head. The aroma is sweet, tangy, sour, sherbet, apple, pear, must, pear drops, sweet syrup, apple skin and spicy oak. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, sharp, crunchy, granny smith apples, pear, snappy, apple skin, funk, touch of alcohol, minerality, light alcohol, tannin and basement with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Fun stuff.

500ml bottle, thanks to danlo. Shared with Soph after a 30 mile ride to Eastridge and back. Pale misty morning piss yellow appearance. Aroma of light lemon zest. Fine spritz. Taste brings lemon zest, breezy citrus, apple skin with a gentle vanilla / lemon sweetness emerging. Soft natural yeast presence. Interesting, pretty tasty.

500ml bottle from Brewdog online store. Hazy pale yellow colour, fizzy white forma head that dissipates to a thin rim and aroma of fruity apple, zesty, citrus. Taste is tangy, apple, some tartness, woody oak, fruity, lactic & vanilla hints, with some zesty citric funk. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry wine-like finish. Nicely drinkable.
