A new-age classic style that we've re-mastered and re-brewed for the first time since 2014. An IPA, in all respects but appearence.

Huge & stable beige to greige head, dense and even, over brownish-tinted, opaque dark beer, lively carbonated. Very aromatic USA-hops nose, fruity. Bit of frying oil aroma through all the exotic fruit from the hops; and some roasted notes already. Bitter, hoppy, resiny, dry, and some roasted coffee and melanoidin notes. Only short, citric fruitiness, as chocolate-and-orange. Finish is very raw-bitter, quinine-like. Medium bodied at least, and very carbonated feel. Good, if a bit raw black IPA. Txs, my friend!

Take 2 - Cask @ Holyrood 9A 280912
The palate is so smooth now and has a great finish, not over roasted or bitter now. It’s a fantastic BIPA 4.1
Bottle fron The Bottle, York 8/4/8/3/16 3.9
Very dark brown - black..rich tan head..very good lacing
Complex aroma of roasted malts..light coffee...some grassy bit earthy hops...bit of citrus..resinous hops...slight smoky wood...some burnt crust
Taste.... initially roasted malt..coffee...burnt..some liquorice...grassy and citrus hops..grapefruit - well blended...In the middle more hop bitterness comes through. Loads of flavour..very tasty...more emphasis on roasted notes than hops
Palate Medium body...smooth...soft carb. Finish is quite dry...roast malt..coffee...lingering bitter citrus hops around the tongue and bitter roast...perhaps a bit over bitter and roasty here or would get 17/20
Overall - Very well made beer...lots of flavour...good BIPA.....but Thornbridge Raven still the one to beat so far

Bottle at home from Beer Ritz, Leeds, kindly fetched over by Matt. Poured a deep dark brown colour with a reserved beige head. Some decent hoppage present in the nose alongside notes of berry fruit and roasted malt. The flavour continued on in a similar vein and struck a tidy balance between roastiness and citrus/grapefruit hop bitterness. A really drinkable and tasty example of the style.

Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, light caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, grapefruit, orange - citrus, pine. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, hoppy, licorice. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111211]

Bottle at home, 15th december 2011. Pours to form a nice off white head good deep back appearance. Good aroma, rich flavour of pine and grapefruit and good smooth balance with the roasted malt, lingering bitter after taste. Will have this again.,

Bottle at Kernel with Nate & Toby. It pours very dark brown, with a thick light beige head. The nose is pine, caramel, resin, dark fruit and cherry. The taste is pine, resin, burnt malt, roasted malt, charcoal and some dark fruit, with a dry finish. Medium body, light carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Clean, smooth and very well balanced. Great stuff.

Bottle l picked up from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon consumed 20.08.11 at family party, near Pontadarwe, Wales Pours black and leaps into action with a real hoppy thrustiness, there is a little grapefruit and a furriness across the tongue. Good fruitiness and I think that I also get the liqourice described but all in all just a decent black IPA. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 19 July 2011) Dark brown colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of pine needles, grapefruit and dark bread. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with pine needles, grapefruit and dark bread. Medium body, fairly dry, with a generous, piney bitterness. Nice one.
