EXTRA BITTER SAISON

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is fruity with peppery Saison yeast, some funk, citrus, fruity hops, grass, soft tropical fruits, a hint of mango, melon, herbal notes. Flavour is lightly tart with a pretty firm bitterness and a dry finish. Body is medium. Crisp and fruity, refreshing and funky, top marks for another delicate yet complex Nevel artwork.

375ml bottle, thanks to MonsterMagnet (not the band). Drunk watching the original 1922 Nosferatu on Halloween. Pours a misty straw gold, good white froth. Floral funk on the nose. Tate presents interesting wild fruity shades with a floral bitterness, some pithy zest and peppery yeast. Nice wild sipper once again from Nevel.

10 August 2019. At Belgian Beer Geek Tasting. Cheers to the crew, thanks for hosting, Tim! Batch #1. Hazy yellow, lasting, small, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, pepper, grass, garden herbs, banana & apple peel. Taste is light fruity sweet, subtle yellow apple, pear & faint banana on top of bitter grass, herbs & some stonefruit, sourish wheat leading to a dry, more bitter, earthy hoppy finish, where yeast & spices linger. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation - a bit 'minerally'. 'Correct' fresh Saison to me but not memorable.

Pretty cloudy yellowish beer, big creamy solid whte head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: weird, funky, lots of brett, soapy, weird. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very soapy, unpleasant, weird, spicy, some citrus, floral. Aftertaste: more spicy, soapy, weird, not a big fan of this one.

Keg at BBNo Bermondsey. It pours clear pale bright gold with a small fizzy white head. The aroma is fresh, fragrant, orange peel, peach, tangerine, campari, tangy, light sherbet and mango. The taste is crisp, dry, bitter, pithy, zesty, bitter orange, campari, tangerine, floral, slightly soapy, spice and straw with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Quite pleasant and bright.
