Pours unclear blonde, as hazy as a modern style NEIPA. I think i got the yeastpour on this one… Smell is strong, mild lime like, very funk forward. Taste is intense, tart, spices, lime. OK.

Bottle, 2019. Color: Hazy orange golden, very thin white head. Some floating particles. Aroma: Citrus, orange, lightly tart, some funk. Taste: Very smooth mouthfeel, no carbonation. Moderate tart, sweet and bitter, fruity notes of citrus, like lemon- and limejuice, mandarin and orange peel. Floral, funk and oak hints. Pretty long lasting fresh citrus fruity finish. Medium body. Nice one, refreshing.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is very citrus forward with a lemon lime characteristic, like a richer, more well rounded Sprite. Faint oak notes and just a hint of herbal funk and a bit of pith. Pours a fairly clear, golden color with a medium sized, medium thick, white head that recedes to a small film that lingers. Faint lacing and no legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a moderate acidity. The citrus notes are fairly strong but they all hit in the middle and back of the palate. Light herbal, notes and faint oak. Not much funk. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice example of putting sudachi in a young lambic. Its a bit overwhelming in the aroma, but a bit more subdued in the flavor.

One of the newest in this series of OWA lambics, made with De Troch lambic by a Japanese entrepreneur located in Brussels and specializing in Japanese themes, in this case sudachi, a lime-like (but round) citrus fruit typical for the Tokushima Prefecture. The bottle as usual carries a paper ornament around the neck, bright grass green in this case. Eggshell-white, mousy, bit irregular and opening head, misty peach blonde robe with ochre-gold edges. Aroma initially with a whole lot of brightly fresh green citrus, very fresh lime juice-like but of course representing the sudachi, flanked by a ‘rural’ lambic character of yoghurt, pickled beetroot, raw rhubarb, green sour apples, unripe pineapple, bread crust, straw bales, cheese crackers and cucumber. Pleasantly softish-acidic onset, very crisp and refreshing ‘bright green’ as if biting in fresh lime flesh thanks to the sudachi, crisply carbonated; bread crust- and cracker-like malt body dried by the lactic tartness of the lambic but coloured and ‘refreshened’ by the citrus, both matching with each other perfectly. Cheesy and herbal (lemonbalm) notes in the finish, dry tannic woodiness and a late but very firm, earthy ‘old hop’ bitterness, quite long and confident, also blending a bit with the sudachi citrusiness. It is no wonder that citrus fruit in some or other form would sooner or later turn out to fit lambic very well and this hits the right spot, with a refreshing, herbal, aromatic, exotic bright ‘greenness’ that goes perfectly with the lambic. Hugely quenching, relatively complex, earthy and fresh at the same time, this beats the two previous citrus lambics by OWA for me (yuzu and mikan) and, sure, all the lambics this company has released so far. Deserves a very generous score in my book.
