Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.
Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Bottle at home. Aroma is tropical fruits, grapefruit, pine resin, orange, mandarin, palt malt, some floral notes hops. Flavour is light sweet with an almost medium bitter finish. Body is medium. There’s a smooth delicate balance to this beer, it delivers on the fruity piney front and I dig the sweetish/bitter flavour. Delicious.

Bottle at Hobie’s at SNA. Clear golden pour with foamy white head. Aroma is grassy pine bitter. Taste is similar, but more grassy. Quite bitter but not much else in terms of flavor. Medium palate. Lasting bitter bite. Wouldn’t get again.

[Tap at Karl Strauss, Universal CIty, LA.] A straw coloured pour with a thin white head; sadly lacking in aroma; but tasting of bitter grapefruit, gently assertive itself; and terminating in a long dry finish. A pleasant IPA.

Draft pour pint, Breakway Bar and Grill. Mostly clean, bright golden orange pour. Sticky foam lacing, oily foam head. A pleasant, fresh grapefruit like aroma. A smooth taste, a modest grapefruit bitter paired with a biscuit like malt. A pretty standard IPA, but well put together. The grapefruit note separates it from the boring pack. Easy drinking IPA. Good stuff.

Draught @ Karl Strauss Brewing - Downtown, San Diego. Pours golden with an offwhite head, lacings. Aroma of malt, grass, fruity hops, citrus, grapefruit, pine. Flavor is light light bitter, malt, fruity hops, citrus, grapefruit. Medium body, average carbonation, lighty bitter finish. 300718

Draught at Chapterhouse, Växjö. Slightly hazy golden amber colour with a thin white head. Fruity aroma with citrus, grasses, pines, a lightly toasted note, caramel malts. Taste is bitter. Medium bodied. Dry, fruity finish. Nice, old school west coast IPA.

THT July at Kwartje. Bottle. Clear golden with white head. Sweet malts, massive rye, light honey and quite some resin, light crispy onion edge. Quite sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty nice stuff!
