Bottle from bier-deluxe.de.
Hazy pale golden color with thick white head. Herbal and citrus hops in aroma. Taste, malt, spicy hops, lemon in background. Long light hoppy bitterness in finish. OK.

33cl bottle pours with a crystal clear pale gold body that supports a fairly creamy near white head of foam that leaves behind some sheet lacing. The aroma offers up a dash of sugary candy malts and the it quickly gets to business with hoppy notes like soft lime citrus, spicy hops and a bit of flowery herb like floral hops. The taste is similar where it starts with a flash of neutral malt sweetness and a moment later modest lime citrus turns into a good dose of grapefruit bitter and flavor hops. To midway it picks up herbal and flowery hops that are on the bitter side and blended pretty well with the nearly tart grapefruit hop bitterness. This is light and refreshing and firm with hoppy bitter goodness from front to back. Due to the load of hops in this it doesn’t seem all that Pils like but the great taste is hard to ignore… so I won’t. Nice beer.

(Keg at Das Meisterstück, Berlin, 20140422) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized, white and it lasted long. Aroma had grass and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, fruitiness, malts, grain and bitterness. Aftertaste was grainy and bitter. A pleasant pils.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Starts fine hoppy and dry without being too much. Fine fruity like lemon, modest bitter background. Finish milder, less dry, still fine hoppy. Not bad!

The Bavaria stands at Berlin’s International Green Week get better every time I go: this year (2014) Private Landbrauerei Schönram had a bar within that area. I wandered over to it and had a draught one of these. 0.3 litre, slight haze to the yellow / golden body, white crown. Hop nature to the aroma, as you’d expect. Floral and grassy hints in the hoppy smell with a mild spicy undertone. The taste wasn’t as hoppy as I thought it would be, pleasant enough I suppose with the spicy hop notes coming through, but otherwise it just seemed like a normal Pilsner to me, a good one but nothing out of the ordinary. Glad I tried it, plenty more beers to try out there though.

BOTTLE 33CL.

Look: bright yellow and hazy with a white, medium, frothy to creamy head with and average retention.

Aroma: quite hoppy, spicy herbal hops, but some citrus (lemon?) and flowers too, lollipop, some malty or yeasty notes in the background.

Taste: spicy and zesty hops, some sweeter notes - fruit/citrus, moderate bitterness that is soft and pleasant.

This is how pilseners should be.
