Any porter requires complexity of malt and yeast flavours without excessive bitterness. We use a mixture of Maris Otter variety pale ale malt, pilsner malt, crystal malt, amber malt, black malt, roasted barley and malted oats. Porters, even imperial ones, are not a hop driven style of beer so the aim is to produce a simple clean background bitterness using traditional varieties like Challenger, Golding and Progress.…

Flaske 0,5l fra Alko Muonio. Drukket i Skibotn 11 Aug 13. Ultradyp mørk amber. Nesten svart. Lavt skum som raskt går over i en tynn film. Beskjeden kaffearoma. Smaken sammensatt: Litt kaffe. Sjokolade. Godt integrert. Ikke påtrengende. Ettersmak av sjokolade.

Dark deep ruby color, tiny beige head. Aroma of bread and toasted, even burnt maltyness. Mediun-bodied. Caramel, licorice, light alcohol in the finish. Lowish bitterness. A bit like Baltian porters.

Many thanks to Finn for a 500ml bottle of this one. Bubbly, beige head reduced to a low layer. Poor lacing. A rustic shade to a deep dark coloured body. Restrained aroma of roasted grainy malts. Flavours of grainy chocolate malts, ash and a little touch of vanilla. Malt bitter ending. Fine bodied, not overly sweet. Pleasing (Tromsø, 03.08.2013).

Smell of roasted malts, metal, chocolate. Dark brown colour, high brown head. Aroma of coffee, licorice, chocolate, some tar. Bitter and sweet, sweetness gets more through with warmth. Soft but plentiful carbon. Surprisingly watery when cold, no longer when warmer.
