This remarkably balanced brew has a deep amber hue with a generous white head. Hopmouth showcases a rich, toasty flavor and sweet caramel notes as a result of the high-quality Maris Otter malt, imported from England. The hops are right up front in the aroma, reminiscent of citrus and pine, while the resin-like flavors linger well after the last sip.

Like their IPA, i found this beer uninspiring, and a tad boring, and under flavored for the style. The hops are there, but just now what i expect in a DIPA, and its pretty one dimensional with a lack of malt. Not a bad beer, just not great, and i dont see myself having it again.

Bottle from Lekkerbier, Sint Nicolaasga. Piney resinous hops with malt, caramel, notes of berries, ripe fruits marmalade. Bittersweet flavour. Resinous with ripe fruits, decent for this kind of IIPA which is not my favourite but enjoyed occassionally.

Notes from March 2009 Midwest night. Dry-hopped. Awesome evening. Poured into a wine glass. A dulled, orange-amber color. No head. Smell is herbal, but mostly just very dank. Spicy yeast. Bittersweet rind on the close. Flavor is quite resinous & leafy. Grainy bread crust malt. In combination with the surprisingly adequate carbonation & chalky yeast, it make the mouthfeel almost hairy. Alcohol is not in check. It finishes dry. Tiny pour & an average result. Maybe not again any time soon.

From Jan 2008

I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!

This one pours from 22oz bottle a hazy deep gold with about a 1" head of foam and plenty of nice lacing.

The smell is pretty hoppy with some notes of malt and a weird nose that reminds me of iodine.(I know it's the pine but I'm sticking to what I said)

The taste on first sip has a nice malt to hops balance and is pretty nice but....the iodine smell that I noted is in the taste as well. Hopefully, after a few more sips, I won't notice it as much or it'll just go away.

After a few more sips...no. It's still there and I'm not liking that one bit. :^( I guess I'm not a fan of really "piney" beers. Not recommended based on this sample.

Nice DIPA from the brewery that first got me into craft brews. While mild compared to some NW doubles, the flavor is nice and clean, even some caramel malts slip through the dense hops. A bit flat on the finish, but good all around.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/29/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange zest, caramel, toffee, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent malty DIPA style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
