Can from Beer52 as part of their Pennsylvania box. Dark reddish-brown with a small beige head. Roasted malts, nuts, caramel, hint of cocoa on the nose. Nice flavour to this - roasted malts, chocolate, some smoke with a nice bitter-sweet crispness in the finish helped by a fine carbonation and some herbal hops. Very good.

Can from LCB. It pours near black with a a handsome tan head. The aroma is smooth roast, toasty, bitter - sweet, plenty of chocolate, coffee cake, some dark fruits, plum and fig rolls. The taste is initially smooth, dark roasted malts, toasty, bitter - sweet character, dark chocolate, unctuous, dark & dried fruits, plum, fig, date, peppery spice, charred notes, coffee and umami aspects. Finish is lingering rich roasted malt. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Flavourful and strikes and nice balance. Nice.

Can from Beer 52 – drank at home. Pours a dark reddish brown with a lively ubt transient frothy cream head. Raisins to the fore in the aroma, along with hints of chocolate cake. In the mouth, there is an initial hoppy sharpness along with cloying chocolate, toffee and dark fruits. Finish is quite fruity. It’s reasonable, but I would say it’s more of a black IPA than a stout.

Tan head on a Coca-Cola coloured body - quite pale for a Stout. Berries, raisin & spiced aroma. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated with a smooth soft cloying back. Malt, piggy, smoky & chocolate tastes with a tangy fruity finish. Drinkable.
