“Iku-Turso is everlasting - an imposing and powerful force of nature.”
Assertively yet gently hopped. Mightily roasty. Rich with velvety malts. An imposing Imperial Stout done Hiisi’s way.

April 2019: 330 ml bottle, probably at Kaisla Beer House, Helsinki, ABV 9.0%. Black colour, tan head. Both aroma and flavour are very well balanced, AFAIK without any unusual ingredients - this is an imperial stout the way it should be. Notes of roast malts, chocolate, coffee and liquorice, hints of tar. Not too sweet. Moderate hops. The best beer I had in Finland.

Thx to VastActiv for this bottle - Euro Swap. Black, opaque color and a huge tan head. Nose is malty, dark chocolate, dried fruits, vanilla. Taste starts with slightly bitter, roasted malts, followed by vanilla and cask flavors. Strong, bittersweet finish.

Bottle at a tasting with the RB boys. Pretty rich and intense. The alcohol is not hidden very well, pretty assertive wamrth. Lots of figs, nuts, chocolate, medium coffee. Despite being strong and all out, it is a pleasant sipper. Slightly woody, whisky feeling to the beer. Quite good, even if a bit too boozy.

Black color with medium beige head. Aroma: chocolate, oaky, nutty notes. Taste: sweetish chocolate, cocoa beans, oak, I guess cognac barrel. Full body, moderate carbonation, moderate to high bitterness. Very good.

Bottle traded with japppp. Kippis. Aroma is pretty down on the low for an Impy Stout. However it is rich - dark sweet fruit and dough to the fore. Underlying black coffee and liqourice. Underlying malts. Dark and glossy. Foamy light beige head. Initial heavy bitterness - coffee and liqourice. This carries on through into the finish. Underlying molasses and a berry tang. Medium bodied. Slick with a creamy edge. Flat-average carbonation. Dry astringent finish. This reminds of the first time I had an Impy Stout - one of Harvey's - a real stark bitterness and obviously there are other facets but there's no pretence, it's just lean.
