DFA is dead, long live DFA. Demus Favorem Amori - 'We choose to stand for love'. DFA, a surprising blend of flavours marrying mango, Vietnamese mint, lime, and chilli with the high citrus hit of centennial, amarillo, and citra hops. The result is a deliciously intense tryst of bittersweet heat, tropical fruit, and citrus hop character coming together to create a beer of rich, satisfying balance. Life is all about choices. Choose love.

Can shared at The Cad’s 10 year get together. Thanks to Wingman Dave 29/03/2015. Nice golden / orange coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is big dank hop, funky orange, pine and citrus hop. Flavour is composed of tobacco, pine, dank, some tangerine, resin. Palate is sticky hop resin on the tongue, moderate carbonation. Pretty good.

Can from World Beer Market via Rakuten. A deep copper-red with a pleasing aroma of peaches and passionfruit with some earthy pine. Soft round mouthfeel on a medium body. The taste is bitter piney and prickles my tastebuds at first. As it opens up you get mango, lime, a sort of chutney like spiciness maybe from the chilis? Interestingly the mint is evident in the aftertaste. Let this warm up to discover the balanced promised on the can. Good.

Can shared during the Cad’s 10th anniversary bash - Clerkenwell, London. Pours clear, deep golden brown with a creamy white head. Juicy citrus and tropical fruits nose with accents of pine. Medium sweet flavor with some bready malts, oily pine, papaya, orange. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish with further pine, grassy spice, meaty hops, ripe orange. Quite good.

Bottle at Crafty Cow Garage Project event. Clear dark ruby amber pour dense thin head. Aroma is aggressively resinous hops but not that big (like Double Trouble but not as strong). Hard to taste the mango chili lime additions at first beneath the big hoppiness, but comes out as it warms a bit. Not sure I'm a fan of the mango, which adds a detectably over ripe fruit flavor, the mint which adds a herbaceousness to the hops which I don't really like. Chili adds a slight burn on the finish, which isn't unpleasant. A nice big hoppy IPA (could be DIPA with the big flavor and palate) and while I appreciate the flavor pairing with Vietnamese food, I don't think the additional ingredients improve the beer.

Nice grapefruit notes in the aroma, small soapy head on orange amber body. Sharper citric hops in the taste, with some soft caramel malts. Gentle, savory brew.

Can at The Cad’s 10 yr Shindig. Thanks to the Wingman. It pours hazy golden-amber with a small white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, doughy, stewed orange, tropical fruits, orange muffin, spice, earth and brioche. The taste is bitter, piney, resin, juicy, caramel, tropical fruits, orange sponge cake and varnish with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Juicy. Decent stuff.

From a 440ml can on 6/3/2015. Pours an opaque dark golden with a small head. Has a pleasant fruity hop aroma. Flavour wise, you get lots of sweet citrus, stone and tropical fruit (mandarin, peach, mango, melon). What makes this a bit different is the bitterness, which is just a touch hot with hint of chili and mint, which makes it cling ardently to the back of your mouth. Has a fullish body and average carbonation. A very good and quite unusual brew.
