Sold as Mr George’s Ruby Porter in the US due to trademark issues. A dark ruby beer with a rich flavour and spicy finish. The hop grist adds a hint of citrus to complement the roasted malt character. Dark, Delicious and Delectable.

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Toasty malty aroma with notes of caramel/toffee, hazelnuts, chocolate and subtle fruity notes in the background. Mildly sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Choco-malty taste with hints of caramel, burnt notes and a very subtle dark fruity touch; dry-ish bitter-sweet finish with notes of chocolate. Pleasant. 13.IV.12

Pours very dark brown with a small head.Nose shows caramel, toffee, diacetyl and soft roasted malt.Similar flavours, more roasted presence but still showing some caramel and diacetyl. A bit plain in terms of roasted character.Could use less carbonation.

So far this brewer has failed to impress me. +++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured almost black with a medium sized soapy tan head that faded quickly and left decent lacing. The aroma was faint tangy and bitter dark fruits and toffee with a hint of vanilla. The flavor was bitter, tart and tangy with faint dry malts and hints of dark fruits, bread and toffee. Long tart and tangy bread and dark fruit finish. Medium body. Eh.

Batemans Dark Lord: 1st review of that beer: 2nd half is of the US labelled one. Lets see if the beer is the same or if my taste buds have changed. Brown 500ml bottle, best before Feb 2008, drank March 2007. Poured into a Gordon’s Finest Gold Thistle glass (twice). A very dark ruby red, deep mahogany wood coloured body with a good light brown foaming head, very impressive, pity the head dispersed so quickly. The aroma has a plum pudding and spicey scent to it, burnt malts and coffee too. Wintery flavours of spices and dried fruits for a Christmas cake, but without the sweetness, burnt caramel also in the mix. All the mentioned flavours in the taste are also within the aftertaste and mouthfeel, it is a tad watery for a 5.0% beer, but that is my only negative comment on this beer. Very, very drinkable, a fine strong dark mild, one I will have again and again. New review 12 July 2011: Mr George’s Ruby Porter: best before date of the 500ml bottle being 31 Jul 2011. The bottle rear label has all the usual US import information, this bottle however never made it over the pond! Poured into a UK pint sleeve, lovely dark and the same as the original review, the head staying longer this time around. Roasted/toasted malts and coffee smells, hints of spices too. Easy drinking winter brew, well worth finding whatever name it appears under.

Deep fruity port like aroma, heavy texture but the fruit taste is more than apparent.

Shortlived greige, small head over deep dark cola-coloured beer. Very fruity/estery nose with chocolate very present; dark fruit as plums, or cherries on brandy and wood. Much more bitterish flavour, if short, with UK hops, and mineral water with some CO² acidity. Some ureum present, coming through the (scarce) melanoidins. Warming up, bitter chocolate flavour reinforcing. Feels very carbonated, light to medium bodied. Now try again with a doubled maltbill, some more hops (dry-hopped by preference), and fermented through. Brits!

Bottled 500ml. -from Biererei, Vienna. Brown coloured, medium sized beige head, malty caramellish nose. Slightly roasted malt, bitter chocolate and quite salty ( but only for a few minutes) with mild notes of dried fruits. Dry finish. Let’s say ok brew.
