A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Bottle from Tescoโs. Poured a clear medium amber with a broken white head and a little initial carbonation. The aroma is weak malt leading to a medium bitter flavour with some malt and bitter hops on the smooth, slightly watery palate. The bitterness lingers for a while in the finish. A decent English session bitter and quite refreshing when cool.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark copper with white head that quickly goes. Low carbonation for a bottled beer. Metallic nose, light flora hops. Boring brown beer.

Cask @ The Three Chimneys, Biddenden - Ashford. Labeled Adnams Best Bitter. Amber body with a moderato sized off-white head. Aroma has some caramel malt with a hint of toast and feels fruity. Flavor is mild, fruity, soft malt, mild caramel and moderate bitterness. Medium body and aftertaste. OK session ale, nothing extraordinary.

A basic bitter, floral hoppy aroma with similar taste. Suprisingly hoppy/bitter finish, it makes you wait for it a bit but itโll come.

Clear caramel colour, no head. Aroma of butter, malts, caramel and hay. Malty sweet flavour, caramel. Quite thin. Finish caramel and malts.
Not really my thing.
