Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Bottle at Sarah’s house adnams fest. Aroma is light caramel and earthy hay. Copper coloured pour with a short lived white head. Flavour is decent caramel, some straw, solid bitterness. Bog standard bitter.

Bottle. Pours deep amber, somewhat clear with two finger vanilla/yellow head, lots of lacings. Aroma is malty, caramel, bread and some floral hops. Taste is soft, malt, caramel, muscovado sugar, and a light lingering bitterness with hops. Medium body, soft carbo, oily texture. Well balanced and very true to the style.

Bottle: Pours clear, medium amber-brown with a lively beige head. Apple, toffee aroma. Taste is a bit oxidized...apple, caramel malt, slight leafy bitter, fruit taste. Not bad, but obviously not a fresh specimen.

Pint from Dragon Nottingham. Copper colour with a thin white head. Sweet, light fruity aroma. Medium body, nice session bitter.

Shared 50cl bottle at Susie’s party. Appearance - dark amber with a decent head. Nose - toffee, biscuits and some apples. Taste - more toffee apple and biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish. Overall - a decent bitter. So many of their beers are well executed but basically very similar.

Mørk brunrød farge med flott høyt skum som ligger langs glassveggen. Lukter karamell, appelsin,grapefrukt og noe humle. Ikke veldig fyldig og smaker bra bittert, men også noe metallisk i smak og ettersmak. Overall, helt ok..
