Golden Pride is a premium, superior-strength bottled ale.
Brewed to 8.5% ABV, it is equivalent in strength to Belgian Abbey beer or barley wine, and is designed to be consumed in smaller measures than the traditional pint.
Golden Pride is known for its rich malty flavours, good balance, and notes of orange oil, toasted grain and spicy fruitcake. The late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, labelled it 'the Cognac of beers'.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Dark golden brown, a fair bit of carbonation. Earthy aroma with honey and brown sugar. Sweet taste with a balancing bitter hop. Finish and aftertaste are a bit too bitter for this type of beer. Medium body. Warming palette, but tastes less alcoholic than it is. Pretty good, but has its faults. I expected more to be honest.

Pours a clear ambery color, topped with a decent and frothy cream colored head. Malty aroma, some roasty notes, fruit and alcohol can also be picked up. Taste starts roasty and sweet, some easy bitterness and a bit of that alcohol in the finish. Not bad, just not my liking, really.

Bottle from Yamaya on sale. 8.5% surprisingly a reddish amber pour on a beer called Golden Pride. A big sweet fruity caramel aroma that is very malt forward. Farily smooth mouthfeel on a medium body. The taste is a wee bit astringent - mostly malty caramel but it has some fruitiness(plums, stone fruits), light chocolate and bitter astringent notes. Not bad, the 8.5% is not so noticeable making for a pretty decent British beer. As you keep drinking it, it continues to open up and reveal more layers a truly pleasant surprise. The alcohol kicks in in the pit of your stomach with a pleasing warmth on a winter evening.

My English rating # 100! This classic would suit. 50 cl. bottle poured in to a Snifter. Clear, deep amber colour with a reddish tine. Thin, creamy off-white head. Good looking, actually. Fruity aroma with oranges, tangerine, bread, toasted malts, dried fruits and a grass-like bitterness. Some alcohol. Rather rich and malty. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body with a creamy to oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry with rich fruits and malts. Lovely, classic brew.

Bottle at home. Has a golden, dark bronze colour with a medium, light brown head that fades fast. Pretty flat carbonation. Sweet aroma of leather, dried fruit, fudge, heather, oak, liqueur and some hops. The flavour is similar but is a little light. Dry ending. Slick and mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A pretty decent and complex aroma but the flavour is surprisingly light. Nice bitterness though.

Bottle @ White Horse, Parsons Green. Pours deep amber with bright orange aroma. Has a robust fruitiness in the taste with dried fruits, toffee, caramel and port-like characteristics, with lots of bitter malts on the finish. A great barley wine!
