Another fine addition to the Black Sheep flock of premium bottle ales. This ale was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python in 1999.
Ten years later on the 40th anniversary Holy Grail is still going strong. With more hops than a killer rabbit, it's a full-flavoured golden ale with a distinctively fruity flavour followed by the Black Sheep signature dry finish.
We brew Holy Grail with Maris Otter malt, an old and expensive variety that is renowned for the taste and the quality of the beer it produces.
A mixture of old English Hop varieties including a touch of WGV hops gives Holy Grail its lovely fruity nose.
We use a touch of wheat which helps deliver the lovely creamy head and lacing down the glass - just what you would expect from a proper Yorkshire beer!

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2017, [ Great British Beer Festival 2017 ], London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX.[ As Black Sheep Monty Python's Holy Grail ].Clear medium orange yellow colour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, apple. Flavor is light moderate sweet with a average duration, fruity malt, apple, sweet malt, pale malt - toasted. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20170809] 5-3-5-3-10

500ml bottle into shaker. From ALDI, Riverwood. pours a clear bronze colour with a thin white foamy head which leaves some lacing, medium carbonation. Slight aroma of sweet malt. Slightly prickly in the mouth, leafy, grassy hops. Finish is cleansing and mildly bitter, touches of mint and herbal hops. More a golden ale than an ESB. Good for a summer beer garden.

Pint Can - I figure that's the bottled version. $2.50, Parkhurst Wine Shop @ Rainbow Hill. No freshness date that I can decipher, but I've had issues with that at this shop. Pours medium gold with a soft white head. Aroma is tart berry, candied berry, light grasses. Flavor is sweet caramel, raspberry hard candy, grasses, English malts. It's not bad despite the candied flavor. It's not a sugar bomb, at least.

Three hand-pulled cask pints while taking part in the Prince Albert, Wolverhampton on 16th June 2018. Clean and clear golden body, smooth white topping. Light fruity nose, malts to the fore in the taste, mild bitterness late on. Actually preferred to bottled version according to my scores for that.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with very small frothy whitish head, lightly spicy caramel malt aroma, high carbonation, spicy sweetish caramel taste, thin body, longish caramel finish. Tasty and easy to drink.
