Praline Chocolate Porter. Dark forces are at work in this devilishly good Praline Porter. Chocolate and fruit come a-knocking. Soft roasty character, with notes of dark berries, mellow coffee and a subtle nuttiness. This beer was in the knockout stages of Beatnik 2018 - grab a slice while you can.

Over best before 05/11/2020, Lot 131082OE (Rational Zombie Day), 330ml can; Ingredients: water, malted barley, lactose, demerara sugar, vanilla, hops, honey & yeast;

AROMA: quite aromatic on the nose but also slightly ”artificial” feel on the edges; indeed sweet milk chocolate praline like feel, toasted bread, obvious lactose over toasted demerara sugars, sweetened cocoa powder, hints of vanilla extract, dried pear slices, subtle floral honey in the background, hints of red fruits esters, subtle earth & grass from the hops, no burnt or roast character on the nose;

TASTE: moderate & smooth carbonation, moderate slick & oily mouthfeel for 5% abv porter, medium light to medium body; surprisingly restrained on the sweetness if you look at the ingredients, no honey or vanilla in the taste, lactose is noticeable, hints of burnt sugars; medium light bittersweet chocolate, light roast but not burnt, moderate roast bitterness of barley coffee & bitter bread crust that lingers in the aftertaste, chicory, hints of grapefruit peel & pine, mild spicy sensation in the aftertaste (probably from the hops)

OVERALL: surprisingly harmonious on the palate, less sweet as suggested in the aroma, more toasted & roasted in the flavors as a regular porter, kind of stout-ish on the edges, no typical dried fruit on the palate; quite an enjoyable adjunct porter

330ml bottle. Clear, darkest brown colour with ruby shimmer and average, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, some coffee, nougat. Taste is sweet-ish, slightly roasty, dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, some coffee, nougat, a touch of toffee, dark berries. Creamy texture, smooth and soft palate, fine to medium, soft carbonation. Very nice, balanced composition, not overly complex, but a handful of distinct, harmoniously combined flavours.

4/XI/20 - 33cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 7/I/21 (2020-1028)

Clear dark brown beer, big irregular creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: soft roast, some chocolate, hazelnut (Nutella notes), bit dusty, dark chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good roast, pretty bitter, dark chocolate, bit chemical, hoppy, very roasted. Aftertaste: more roast, very bitter anding, coffee grit, bit watery, chemical bitterness almost, very dry finish, charcoal, not bad.

Bottle that Jim shared - cheers! Brown-black with a beige head. Nutty flavours from the off. There's a touch of milk chocolate, and a little espresso and charred malt in the finish. But it's mainly nut. Brewdog definitely got the praline thing they were aiming for here; there's even a hint of praline powderiness in the smooth, full mouthfeel. Decent beer, maybe just a touch too charred for me but I still enjoyed it.
