The Redwood Project began in 2013 when we foraged the late summer fruits from hedgerows and farms around the brewery. These were then put into barrels where they rested for a full year with some of our wildest beer before being packaged. The first Redwood was released late in 2014 as an Autumnal foraged fruit beer.
This is a progressive beer which will vary year to year based on the forgeable fruits available and how long they have spent in barrels before culminating in a crescendo of sweet fruits, roasted oak and vibrant acidity.
Imagine walking through the first fallen leaves, eating a handful of the last tart red berries of the summer with a whiff of mulled wine and bonfires in the crisp Autumn air - that's Redwood 2016.

Bottle. Dirty red colour, small head. Aroma is red wine, wood, red currant, a bit of vanilla. Initially the sourness is a bit shocking, but the beer is pleasant to drink. Slightly sweet. Light body. Reminds me of Duchesse de Burgogne without unneeded sweetness. Fantastic!

Mekelburg’s, Brooklyn tap: pours reddish brown with a tiny head. Aroma is woody, vinegar, something like berries or something like that. Taste is rather sour with a woody finish. Mellow fruitiness throughout. Low carbonation. Pretty good.

Bottle. Almost clear brown, less than a coat of beige head. 3 Aroma of sweet and tart berries, some bread crust, bracken. 7+ Medium bodied, low carbonation. Acidic and sour with berries, lemon, cherry vinegar. Bread crust and some light toffee struggle to support. Spicy oak (Hungarian?) at the end. Lots going on with berries. Pushes it with the acidity but not too far. Good.
