Bottle shared at work. Dark copperish brown pour, huge off-white head. Smokey, funky, fruity with a touch of earthy notes. Moderately sour, pretty funky with low sweet notes. Super high carbonation, light body. Weird at first, but quite interesting altogether.

BBE 02/2022;Quite strong gusher, another carefully & long opening to minimize the beer loss;Harmonious combo of brown sugar sweetness & vinous-white wine like tartness on the nose, soft & light smoky presence from smoked plums but plums are restrained

The latest in a series of Alvinne experiments involving smoked fruit, in this case plums, an idea from a Chinese Alvinne fan living in France, from what I heard. Thanks tderoeck for sharing. Yellowish beige, mousy, thick head on a cloudy amber-hued bronze-brown beer. Aroma of blood oranges, ripe peach, touch of smoked plum indeed and clearly so without overpowering, sour yoghurt, medlar, green pear, sourdough, caramel, moist paprika powder (probably just the smoky hint returning), soaking wet wood. Estery onset, sour plum with redcurrant- and even lemon-like sourness to it, but – as is so often the case with present-day Alvinnes – with a sweeter, peach- and fig-like core as well; fizzy carb, caramelly and supple malt body dried thoroughly by this sourness, becoming vinous in the end especially when astringent woody tannins come into play. A light smoky note indeed shows up retronasally, adding complexity, but I would not be able to tell that the smoked fruit ‘in casu’ is indeed plums had I not known. Light earthy-yeasty touch but altogether remaining well-contained, focused, clean and dry-sour, with a juicy tail. Quite typical for Alvinne’s present day house style, with a thorough yet beautiful sourness mitigated by inherent sweetness, deep and rich, another argument for Alvinne being among the world’s leading sour ale producers. Glad I finally had this one, thanks Tim.
