2010 12oz bottle. Filtered amber-brown. Steady, soapy off-white/beige head. A pretty solid Amber Ale, quite hop forward. Some spices Id assume, but they are pretty well integrated, maybe adding a touch of cinnamon bite. Rather flavorful, but kind of a watery backbone. Sugary caramel, candy orange hops. Vanilla tinged fruity pungency of the amber malt. OK.

12 oz bottle courtesy of my 2010 Winter Secret Santa. Pour is a clear copper mahogany with a smallish off white head. Aromais some pine hop and nutty malt, not too much else - maybe a bit of generic malt grain. Taste is the nut, fruit sweetness, pine and citrus hops, finishing with a candi sugar sweetness. Palate is medium to thin bodied, full carbonation, though flattens out and gets a bit flabby in the finish. Decent enough, thanks for sending this my way Santa!

Courtesy kiefdog. Pours clear amber with copper hues and thin white head. The aroma is sweet with malts, hints of roasty malts, some graininess and a dash of dates. Interesting. The taste is a little roasty to start then moving into mild notes of apple and faint nutmeg and cinnamon spices.

Bottle: Poured an amber color with reddish tint, head was a light white. Aroma is malty at best. Taste is sour and malt, very unbalanced. This was a very bad Christmas beer, hopefully I purchased a one of bottle or its a recipe they shouldn’t try again.

bottle, pours dark amber with a medium off white head. Nice hop aroma with pine and spiced notes. Flavor is nice toasted malt, balanced well with moderate hop bitterness and a peppery spice in the finish. Nice.

Pours light mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head pancakes as it recedes to sicken surface leaving sheet lacing. Dark caramel aromas. Dry sharp caramel upfront turning slightly sour in the astringent metallic finish.

Aroma: A relatively bland aroma that includes some notes of caramel, biscuit, spice, and nuts
Appearance: Pours a cloudy dark orange-red (almost brown) color with a fluffy white head
Flavor: Taste is pretty malty, but there isn't much else going on, its really dull flavor-wise
Palate: The body is light with a fizzy carbonation, but a really thin texture and a somewhat short finish
Overall Impression: Overall, I was not impressed. This beer just isn't really that great. I'll tell you, it just didn't do it for me, but I guess I'm not alone. The look was by far the best part of this one, but that really isn't saying too much. Skip it...

The 2009, from the tap at Mudvile 9. Pours a dark brown with a medium beige head. Nose of sweet malts. Caramel predominates in th flavor, with the strong malt character lurking around the outskirts. Only a faint sense of bitterness. Medium bodied and relatively smooth. Not too bad.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramalised sugars and a tiny bit of spices, perhaps. Medium-bodied; Roasted maltiness tucked in with some sugars noticeable. Aftertaste shows no hops, no spices and just a little alcohol - not very good. Overall, worth trying, because it’s a seasonal, but not really one worth buying a six pack of! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C.

I thought I might have had this before, but I decided to go ahead and grab it when I was making the mix and match sixer. I'm surprised I rated it so low, perhaps they've been doing something different with this beer, fixing their techniques, because I thought this came across as a pretty decent red ale. At least better than the 3.1 I gave it before. I like the nice bready toasted malts, the leafy tobacco-ish hops, the light bitter semi-balanced finish, semidry overall profile. I'm good with it. Original rating: Chestnut orange huge, modest head and lacing. Restrained nose of caramel and fruitcake, with a touch of orange rind. There seems to be something herbal or floral in there too. Balanced and somewhat Britishy, somewhere in the vicinity of an ESB, with an herbal hop and light caramel fruity malts. Lightish finish. A little too fizzy. To say its boring and uninspired might be a bit harsh but not far off the mark.
