The Blacksmith IPA is the first beer of our Brewers Limited series and this time we invited Kim Smeds to brew with us. The Blacksmith IPA is a straight forward IPA, giving a gentle fruity and floral aroma and a nice bitter hoppy kick in the finish, without forgetting the crispy malts. Enjoy as is, or along with heavier fatty or salty foods.

Bottle thanks to Patrik: Poured a unclear hazy yellow with a white fluffy head. Aroma is juicy fruits and hops, herbal, citrus, grapefruit, malty. Taste is bitter hops forward, citrus, grapefruit, balanced malt backbone, grainy finish.

Bottle at Ardes residence, Helsinki. Color is slightly cloudy golden with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, citrus, some hops and malts. Messy.

[ As Kvarken The Blacksmith IPA ].
ABV: 6.7%. Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, sweet malt, moderate hoppy, floral, marmalade. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, sweet malt, pale malt, grapefruit, hops bitter, marmalade hops - butterscotch, tea bitter, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20210311]

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Clear deep golden, mid sized head. Aroma of grapefruit and tea. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Fruity and bready with grapefruit zest and pine needles. Long, really bitter finish. Harmonious, yet flavourful - but not the tropical fruit juice kids call IPA.

Tap at Winston 2020. Smell of citrus. Hazy amber colour, white head. Aroma of spruce, grapefruit, hops, some lemon. Medium bitter, mildly sour. Lively carbon. Barbed flavour.

Draught @ Winstonin Olutjuhla 2020 Unusual aroma has floral notes, some smoke and wort. Also some Fisherman's Friend. Flavour has smoke, tar, Fisherman's Friend. Unusual IPA but nice, perhaps a bit old?

Bottle 33cl. Thanks to oh6gdx! Poured almost clear and golden with a steady white head. Heavy on the grapefruit and floral notes in aroma and flavor. Bitter finish. Unfortunately some strong rubbery notes when pouring and in the first sips. Fades away later.

On tap at Nolia Beer 2019. A bit hazy orange with a small head. Aroma of malt, some hops and hay. The same in the taste. Not that fruity. The bitterness was fairly light.

Tap at Pub Winston Fest. Slightly cloudy orange colour, small white head. Grainy, a bit diacetylic-like nose. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Grassy, grainy, quite malty flavour. Flavour is okish. Brit ipa.
Re-rate bottle, thanks oh6gdx: Hoppy grassy nose. Quite bitter hoppy flavour, lots of grapefruit and hay. Quite different taste than in my original rating. (Was: 5/5/6/2/12 2.8)
