Night Archive is the first in our series of Imperial Stouts aged in spirit barrels. This beer was built on a massive grist of English dark malts and then aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. We then conditioned on Tahitian Vanilla beans as well as select coffees from our friends at KAFFA in Oslo.

Bottle. Three year old. Pours a dark brown to black colour with a very small beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate truffles, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, tobacco, licorice, roasted malt and ash. Flavour of dark chocolate, ash, roasted malt, licorice, tobacco and roasted coffee beans. Has a slick and silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a soft bitterness. Rich, roasted and nice.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Premier Hop I think. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Lightly sweet, plenty of tangy dark fruits, earth, a little ash, tobacco, astringent woody dryness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy finish, more astringency, beat-up leather, earth, berries. Warming alcohol. This is rather poor.

50 cl bottle @ St. Mary's Park Tasting. Batch #0033, bottled 29.09.2020. Aroma has sweet toasted sugar, licorice and coffee. Flavour has toasted sugar, coffee, licorice and rubbery tones. Quite close to Nøgne Ø Dark Horizon 3. Harsh finish.

Bottle at Patricks. Pitch black body under a nice, dense, lacing medium sized beige head. Nice and strong aroma of medium roasted dark malt, vanilla, Bourbon, coffee, wood and dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, sweet, soft roasted dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate, lots of vanilla, distinct Bourbon, some wood, balanced bitterness and warming alcohol. Fine body, actually lighter than expected and long-lasting aftertaste that ends a bit alcoholic. A really nice and tasty imp. Stout with an impressive balance for the high ABV, even if I think this will be totally fine at about 10% as well. The bourbon and the vanilla tend to be a bit dominating when the glass heats up a bit, but by al means this is a superb beer among the very best in this class. My biggest surprise was that this is 77IBU, it’s just balancing very well and has no hop sting at all.
