Sour Blonde Ale Aged in Oak with Blueberries

Beauregarde is our first ever use of blueberries and we couldn’t be happier with how this beer turned out. We added an incredible amount of fruit to our barrel aged, sour blonde ale and the result is just as expected. A lovely shade of reddish purple with flavors of tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect along side a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Admin Note: Released under the Bruery label in 2013, newer vintages can be found under Bruery Terreux.

Currant and oak aroma, hints of marshmallow peeps, but tart overall. Pinkish copper, thick peach colored head with no retention. Very very tart, currant, apple core and oak. Not much of a blueberry presence except for in the finish, but I doubt I would have been able to identify it as such if I wasn’t expecting it to be there. Velvety, tannic, very tart, fizzy, a bit like putting a 9v battery to your whole mouth. A delicious sour that’s a real challenge for the palate.

Bottle. Hazy to cloudy off pink color. Aroma has berries, citrus. Taste is very tart, balsamic berries and fruit. Too acidic for me.

Aroma: The aroma is fairly tart, the blueberries are present, but not overpowering
Appearance: Pours a hazy purple-reddish color with a beige head and average lace
Flavor: The taste is tart and a little sweet with a nice malty component and some oak as well
Palate: The body is medium, with a pretty good mouthfeel, and a clean, tart finish
Overall Impression: Thanks Dave! I enjoyed this one. The blueberry component works nicely without killing the beer with sweetness. Well done.

Poured from a 750mL bottle. Aroma is fairly fruity with a nice blueberry character. Light acidity with a nice, light oak character. Some raspberry and cassis notes as well with a hint of tropical fruit. Pours a somewhat clear, reddish copper color with a small, moderately thick, slight tan head that recedes quickly to the edges. Flavor is moderately acidic with a nice lactic character and a hint of acetic acid. Medium light notes of blueberry with some other berry notes. Light oak character and a hint of tannins. Faint tropical fruit and faint bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice sour beer with a good berry character. Blueberry notes are nice, but not super jammy and overpowering. Decent, complimentary oak notes.

Bottle thanks to John. Hockey Pool box. Pours hazy reddish purpose with pink white head. Nose/taste of blueberry, oak, lacto and vinegar tartness and puckering acid. A bit too sour for my preferences. Lighter medium body.

750ml bottle pours an inky blue with some cloudy, white head. Nose has berry, herbs, candy and just a lot of tartness. Flavor is very tart, lots of acid, berry, a little booze, sweet tarts, wood pulp. Tart finish. Not my bag.
