Black as a hard day's night, this barley wine is packed with American, German, and Czech hops, as well as a myriad malt bill. This fab four bring immense complexity to a rich, full-bodied, bittersweet brew. Bitter caramel, dark chocolate dipped honeycomb, floral brandy notes, cinder toffee and pitchwood, remixed and perfectly tuned.

On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd, Edinburgh. Appearance - dark brown with a nice crema head. Nose - toffee and burnt bread. Taste - more toffee, going into praline. Burnt bread in a big way. Palate - medium to full bodied. Crunchy and dry finish. Overall - a bit like a Scotch Ale I'd say. OK.

Can 330ml (Fanzine)
Dark ruby colour, small beige head. Toffee, caramalt, berries and quite strong alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied. Toffee, booze, berryness in the flavour. Some toasted notes and chocolate. Alcohol is a bit dominating. Typically for BD it has very "clean" (clinic) palate.

Can via BD Fanzine. It pours very dark brown, with a decent light tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, rich roast, dull smoked, burnt toffee, plenty of liquorice, sandalwood, floral, charred toast, dark fruits, sugared plums and toasted brown sugars. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, rich roasted malt, ashy, smoke, charred, chewy, slick, toothy malt, sugar plums, prune, date, liquorice, peppery spice, warming alcohol, oak and earth with a drying and boozy finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth feel. A bit heavy and toothy perhaps, but makes for an interesting sippin ale.

Keg at BrewDog Leicester. Dark brown and translucwnt with a loose and uneven off-white head. Strong scent of booze, raisins, chocolate, pine and a touch of bubblegum. Caramel sweet taste is interspersed with the atringency of naked booze.long medicinal finish. Soft carbonation. I could drink this eight days a week.

330ml can via fanzine club. Pours black as a hard days night, moderate pale tan bubbles which disperse to leave a thin ring. Interesting semi-sweet aroma with distant fudge, dark chocolate, pine perhaps. Oily slick mouthfeel, smooth palate-coating chocolate, brittle hammer-bashed toffee, light roast, soft bitterness with a brandy kick on the finish. Comes across as perhaps more an imperial porter with a barley wine alcohol boost. Quite enjoyable.
