Cals at Archibald Simpsons, Aberdeen. It pours clear chestnut brown. With a a handsome frothy beige head. The aroma is toasty grains, earthy, woody, nutty, filter coffee, raisin, sultana, toasted fruit cake and cacao nibs. The taste is firmly dry, some pleasing bitterness which lingers, woody, sappy, resin, dull coffee, cacao nibs, earth, dried fruits , some spice and molasses with a drying, slightly toothy finish. Average body and soft, fluffy cask carbonation. Well put together, flavourful and in good condition. Nice one.

Pours a clear amber-brown colour with a small bubbly off-white head. The aroma is malty with caramel and dark fruit notes. A moderately sweet and malty taste, sweet malts, light caramel and dark berry fruits with some peppery hop notes in a bittersweet finish.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A mahogany coloured pour with a translucent frothy rim; fruity malt aroma; rather thin in the mouth with a fruity malt taste; then a little spice to finish:

Cask handpull at The County Hotel JDW Ashford. Clear russet colour lasting beige head. Malty aroma. Full fruity ale yeast and malty flavour. Light bitterness on the finish. It's a decent malty bitter with some ok pepper character on the finish.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Shrewsbury Hotel (Spoons) on 24th January 2024. Looked fine, clean and clear autumnal amber with an off-white blanket of creamy bubbles. Malty front, but 'on the turn' should returned it really as it was clearly towards the end of the barrel. Scored kindly because I'm sure it's OK normally.

Bottle. Clear mahogany. Soft spices, cardboard, caramel, leafy. A bit dry, dusty and cardboard-like. Chestnuts. Light sweet and bitter. Meh.

Bottle 4.1%. Lovely clear mahogany brown colour with lasting head. It's a full flavoured malty bitter. Very sessionable. Just the right level of floral bitterness too.
