It all starts with a complex malt bill. A generous vienna / munich base. The best dark malts and rye for roundness. A long fermentation follows, followed by an even longer lagering. The result is pure and elegant, polished by time...

Can, 0.33l. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and rye. A bit of a gusher, pours almost black color with huge soapy light brown head and fair lacing. Taste starts with coffee and mild fruity note, following is heavily roasted, grainy and earthy with bitter chocolate note, mouthfeel is rather dry, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Not bat at all…

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Etre. Looked like a poised grenade when it arrived, with the top just barely not bursting. You know, when it protrudes like an outie? Quite worrying. Thankfully the beer is pretty good. Of course, I vented it. Pours deep brown with a billowing, frothy tan head. Medium sweet flavour with moderate roast, some cocoa, subtle raisin notes, earth. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more chocolate, nips of burnt rubber, earth, dark fruit. Enjoyable.

Draught Stable if medium cream-tan coloured head over pitch black beer. Sweet drop , liquorice, melanoidins & roasted malts, but nowhere the big roastiness expected. Drier in flavour, bit of cigarette ash. Remote maltsweetness, dark sweet bread, some liquorice left, and indeed more roast than in the nose. Quite well-bodied, gristslick with a rye creaminess, almost chewy and good carbonation. Puzzling enough, the aftertaste is again sweet. Pretty average in the end.

Deliciously tasty but wish it was stronger and a bit thicker. For like the last 2 years, maybe 3, I've been dreaming of pohjala Baltic porters but haven't found any like I used to. This is delish but definitely porter expectations. Maybe I need BA this.

Trevlig
