A traditional Highland recipe, popular in Northern Scotland until the end of the 19th Century. This "Triple" style ale is spiced with sprigs of spruce and pine, harvested in the spring and brewed with only a small token handful of hops. Break out the goblets and pour with abandon. Rich, tawny and best enjoyed at room temperature.

(Test vom Mai 2013)

330ml bottle from Appleyards, Shrewsbury. Honestly didn’t expect a taste hit as big as this.. MASSIVE fruity flavour with bubblegum, spruce, pine, butterscotch and cointreau that permeates every drop of this wonderful drink. In fact in a blind tasting I’m not sure I’d even call this a beer.. more like a big fruity wine. Different and very tasty.

Weird beer. Tastes like bubblegum, fruits and candi sugar, with some grassy herbs mixed in. Don’t know what to make of it.

0.33l bottle. Amber body, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, booze, strawberry and elderberry. Taste of caramel, strawberry, bubble gum and some grassy bitterness. It’s more on the sweet side, but the finish is a bit bitter (I would say hoppy, but it’s not clear for me if that comes from the pine or from the hops). Medium body, silky texture. Very nice.

A copper colour, a head is almost medium and blond. The nose is sweet and slightly caramelly, lots of strawberries, also other red berries, hint of pine needles. Quite simple but still good aroma. Taste is sweet, strawberries, caramell, in the end some drying herbs/wood. Full bodied, low carbonation, smooth. Almost at room temperature as suggest, quite sweet and berry curiosity beer. More simpler when colder, the sweetness is not so strong anymore.

12 oz. bottle from the Beer Store, Nashua, NH. Hazy amber with lots of yeast floating around in the glass. Nose is indeed Earthy spruce tips and rich malt. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. I enjoy the unique flavors in this ale. The taste is hay, sweet elderberry, caramel, honey and spice, with a long herbal finish. This is an interesting gruit that I find I like quite a bit.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 06/2013
Beer started to come out of the bottle spontaneously. Aroma is sweetish with resin, fruity notes and caramel. Flavour has caramel, pine needles and toffee. Also slight woody and sherry notes. Quite intensive, but works with small sips. Nice, no off‐flavours even though the BBE was close.

Bottle from Brewdog Slovensko. Aroma is honey, malty, pine, notes of wood and very light alcohol. Colour is deep amber with a spark, head is small and quickly disappearing. The body is surprisingly full, the texture creamy in the mouth. Taste is full of forest flavours, honey, grass, pine, flowery and herbal. Later some fruitiness also comes forward. Is it sweet or bitter or tart or sour or has it got a pinch of salt? Really hard to tell, this beer has it all - combined in a very elegant way. It drinks very well and if aroma suggested some alcohol, taste blows it away with flavours. Finish is rather dry. This is one very good beer, I will gladly return to it in the future. As it warms, it gets more sweet in a way that annoys me, I would ignore the recommendation to drink it at room temperature.

Smak och doft av tall, granskott, grönsåpa, malt, humle. Friskt och väldigt speciellt öl. Trevlig beska.
