The Pier den Drol was created on the initiative of the KBR (Royal Library of Belgium) and the Het Goudblommeke in Papier / La Fleur en Papier Doré, to celebrate the Bruegel year in Brussels in style. We did not want to make a classic witbier, but decided to make a beer close to a white, but without spices and well hopped. The old hops bring both floral notes (hawthorn flower and acacia), fruity (quince, wild strawberries), and slightly spicy (nutmeg, white pepper)

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up in London somewhere. Pours mostly clear, yellow-gold, effervescent, with a billowing white head that settles into a cream. Kind of a slow burn but after a while you start to appreciate the balance and nuance. Lightly sweet, with some crispy wheat flakes, lemon peel, soft yeast, straw. Light bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Clean finish, with a few biscuits, more lightly bitter straw, pale grains. Quite subtle. Lovely.

Bottle. Hazy golden, white head. Clean, yeasty aroma, wheat and light hops. Fruity, yeasty flavour. Delicate, light hops. Quite elegant, actually.

Cloudy yellow golden, good foamy white head, quite adhesive, small layer remains. Aroma wheat malt, lemon, orange, peach, yeast, hay, spicy notes. Flavour medium sweet and bitter, light citrus acidity in the background, wheat, lemon, sherbet, hay, spicy notes. Dry sweetbitter finish, orange pith, spicy on the tongue. Medium body, oily to creamy texture, average carbonation, really good wheat ale.

Bottle from BIAB. It pours cloudy pale gold with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is bready malts, floury, doughy, wheat, cracker, soft fruity vibes and hay. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, floral, pithy, zesty citrus, grassy, straw, nip of spice, cracker and a hint of green banana with a nice dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. All comes together well. Quite quaffable and vibrant. Very drinkable.

Tap at beerlovers bar. Pours unclear, pale yellow. Small white head. Smell is very citrussy, but not that complex. Taste is sharp, tad bitter, mild citrussy. Not as wheat forward as axpzxted. A clear wheat-funk in the aftertaste though, with lingering citrussy notes.
