Imperial dry stout brewed with coffee, aged on schnapps soaked oak.

No night out on the island of Fanø is complete without a strong cup of Coffee Punch. Black coffee and Brøndums Snaps are key the ingredients of choice for this traditional Fanø nightcap. Brewed to honor Fanø's drink of choice and the many late nights spent among friends enjoying it, "Coffee Puncher" is an Imperial Dry Stout brewed with coffee and aged on Brøndums-soaked oak chips (and even more coffee). Flavors and aromas of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and coffee dominate this strong, bone-dry stout.

Malts: Pale Ale Malt, Roasted Barley, Carafa Special III, Chocolate Malt, Oak Smoked Barley, Carafa II
Hops: Columbus
Adjuncts: coffee
Aromas: cinnamon, roasted malt, dark chocolate
Yeast: WLP001
Pairs well with: Late Nights spent on Fanø, sugary cookies, roasted meats

Bottle 50 cl. Pours an opaque black with a smallish, beige head. Vague roast in the nose, but also oaky tannins and a hint of schnapps. Solid body, an initial sweet roastiness that quickly dries out to be replaced by somewhat aggressive tannins while the schnapps doesn't really materialize taste wise - perhaps apart from a mouthdrying booziness. Perhaps a slightly sweeter Stout would have integrated the sharp oakiness better, but it's a wonderful concept to build a beer over the traditional Danish kaffepunsj - a cup of coffee with a shot of Schnapps. 110321

Black, small beige head. Dark malt, coffee and wood aroma. Choc and bitter licorice flavour. Some woody dryness and barely balanced sharp booze. Not usually a fan of snaps/akvavit but this is tolerable.

Draught @ the brewpub, Fanø. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy dark tan head. Dark aroma of coffee, malt and chocolate, with touches of yeast. Bitter, roasty and coffeelike flavour with estery and malty notes and mild touches of barrel. Roasty and estery aftertaste. A dry and decent Imp Stout. Good work, Fanø!
