The Bar Mates series is a line of beers made in collaboration with some of our favorite bars in the Netherlands. With these beers we thank them for supporting the craft beer community.
In this edition we treamed up with Amsterdam's Bier-Proeflokaal In De Wildeman. Together we have created a lightly smoked Schwartsbier with a crisp finish and earthy notes from German Noble Hops.
For every case we sell we donate proceeds to De Wildeman to show our support during the COVID-19 crisis.

Can at home. Deeper brown pour with a tan head. Nose and taste are caramel, toasted malts, lots of molasses. Barely any roasted notes and virtually no smoke. It’s also lacking in depth, the body is light, with a soft carbonation. Not really what it promises to be.

Tap at Arendsnest, 8th June 2023. Pours blackish. Aroma is caramel and yeast, cocoa. Taste is smooth and bitter cocoa, yeast. Quite nice

Can 33cl. @home poured into a stem glass. Dark ruby brown colour, fair creamy tan head, half-way lasting, fair lacing. Aroma roasted malts, smoke, subtle bacon, caramel, earthy notes. Retronasal smoke and bacon. Bit thin taste, medium sweet and bitter, roast, small bit liquorice, dark bread. Light to medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation, smooth semi-dry sweetbitter aftertaste, roasty bits, still some retronasal smoke, bit ashy impression, easy to drink, good.

Can. Color: Murky reddish brown, dense mocha head. Aroma: Malty, dark and some roasted malt, caramel. Taste: Dark and roasted malt, smooth, bit creamy, some floral and slightly citrus hop in the background. Quite subtle smoke. Caramel and subtle licorice notes. Just under medium, pretty thin mouthfeel, just under average carbonation. Ok.

Pours a very dark (but not quite schwartssss) colour and a small beige head with little retention. Aroma's: smoky, leather, light caramel sweet, light fruit. Retronasal it's light smoky, roasted/toasted, grain, light fruit. Flavour is light sweet, smoky, ryebread. Light bodied. Finishes slightly dry, roasted, ashy, moderate bitter. Nice.

Can at home, Black beer, small head. Aroma is smoke, some tobacco, malt, roast, bit of leather, earthy. Taste is the same, bitter, dry, long roasted dry aftertaste with a hint of smoke. not bad.
